In the classical approach to elasticity problems, the components of the displacement field are the primary unknowns. In an “intrinsic” approach, new unknowns with more physical or geometrical meanings, such as a strain tensor field or a rotation field for instance, are instead taken as the primary unknowns. We survey here recent progress about the mathematical analysis of such methods applied t...
this study deals with the applications of a trigonometric shear deformation theory considering the effect of the transverse shear deformation on the static flexural analysis of the soft core sandwich beams. the theory gives realistic variation of the transverse shear stress through the thickness, and satisfies the transverse shear stress free conditions at the top and bottom surfaces of the bea...
In 2004 Kim and Chan performed a torsional oscillator measurement of the rotational inertia of solid helium-4. They found frequency changes which were interpreted in terms of a non-classical rotational inertia, that is a partial superfluidity or “supersolidity” of solid helium-4. Since then there have been many further studies using various versions of this technique. One important question tha...
In this note we treat the equations of fractional elasticity. After establishing well-posedness, we show a compactness result related to the theory of homog-enization. For this, a previous result in (abstract) homogenization theory of evolutionary equations has to be improved. The approach also permits the consideration of non-local operators (in time and space).
Nonlinear vibration of a fluid-filled single walled carbon nanotube (SWCNT) with simply supported ends is investigated in this paper based on Von-Karman’s geometric nonlinearity and the simplified Donnell’s shell theory. The effects of the small scales are considered by using the nonlocal theory and the Galerkin's procedure is used to discretize partial differential equations of the governing i...
Graphene is an ultimate membrane that mixes both flexibility and mechanical strength, together with many other remarkable properties. A good knowledge of the elastic properties of graphene is prerequisite to any practical application of it in nanoscopic devices. Although this two-dimensional material is only one atom thick, continuous-medium elasticity can be applied as long as the deformations...
abstract: in this paper, nonlocal euler–bernoulli beam theory is employed for transverse vibration analysis of an initially pre-stressed size-dependent rotating nanotube. the nonlocal eringen theory takes into account the effect of small size, which enables the present model to become effective in the analysis and design of nanosensors and nanoactuators. governing equations are derived through ...
