Two new species records of Oplitidae, Oplitis exopodi Hunter & Farrier, 1975 and Oplitis sarcinulus Hunter & Farrier, 1976 are redescribed based on Iranian specimens from leaf-litter forest in Mazandaran province, northern Iran. A key to the Iranian species of Oplitis is presented.
The volatile oil content and composition of the aerial parts of Ajuga orientalis L. (Lamiaceae) grown in northern parts of Iran have been analyzed by GC/MS. Thirty compounds were identified, representing 97.9% of the total oil. The main compounds were germacrene-D (24.2%), beta-cubebene (18.3%), beta-caryophyllene (16.9%) and alpha-cubebene (5.3%).
In 2014-2016, >1,000 wild goats and sheep in 4 northern and central provinces of Iran died from peste des petits ruminants virus (PPRV) infection. Partial nucleoprotein sequencing of PPRV from 3 animals showed a close relationship to lineage 4 strains from China. Control measures are needed to preserve vulnerable ruminant populations.
