This paper shows how role-based access control (RBAC) models can be implemented in distributed object-based systems that follow OMG/CORBA standards. We introduce a novel approach that provides for automatic role activation by the security components of the middleware, which brings role-based access control to security-unaware applications.

The concept of executable modelling, as outlined by the MDA approach, is not very common in the area of business software using databases. One of the reasons is certainly the increased complexity and heterogeneity of such software on its target platforms. Another reason is a weak support for such data-intensive software from the modelling solutions related to UML. In this paper we present the i...

UML is a standard language for specifying, visualizing, constructing, and documenting the artifacts of software systems. UML was created by Object Management Group (OMG) and UML 1.0 specification draft was proposed to the OMG in January 1997. OMG is continuously putting effort to make a truly industry standard.  UML stands for Unified Modelling Language.  UML is different from the other commo...

The Software Communications Architecture (SCA), a mandatory specification for Software Radio implementations by the Joint Tactical Radio System (JTRS), defines a Common Object Request Broker Architecture (CORBA) based component model for building portable applications in a heterogeneous environment. The Object Management Group’s (OMG) CORBA is an accepted architecture for distributed systems th...

The objective of this paper is to present the more important features of a behavior model intended for the specification and the validation of distributed applications or distributed application components. Distributed application components are the basic building blocks that are directly useful for the procurement of working distributed applications, e.g. telecommunication management network (...

Forty-four novel strains of Gammaproteobacteria were cultivated from coastal and pelagic regions of the Pacific Ocean using high-throughput culturing methods that rely on dilution to extinction in very low nutrient media. Phylogenetic analysis showed that the isolates fell into five rRNA clades, all of which contained rRNA gene sequences reported previously from seawater environmental gene clon...

INTRODUCTION Studies in the critically ill that evaluate intragastric and post-pyloric delivery of nutrient have yielded conflicting data. A limitation of these studies is that the influence in the route of feeding on glucose absorption and glycaemia has not been determined. METHODS In 68 mechanically ventilated critically ill patients, liquid nutrient (100 ml; 1 kcal/ml containing 3 g of 3-O...
