We herein report a rare case of acute basophilic leukemia with t(16;21)(p11;q22) generating the FUS-ERG fusion gene. The basophilic nature of leukemia blasts was demonstrated by cytomorphology, toluidine blue metachromasia, mature basophil-associated antigen expression, and characteristic granules under electron microscopy. The molecular link between t(16;21)/FUS-ERG and basophilic differentiat...

Membrane scattering in m(atrix) theory is related to dynamics in three-dimensional SU(2) gauge theory, with transfer of p11 being an instanton process. We calculate the instanton amplitude and find precise agreement with the amplitude in eleven dimensional supergravity.

Trisomy 16q is reported in a malformed infant who died at 12 days of age. The karyotype was 46,XX,der(15)t(15;16) (p11;q11)mat. A balanced translocation was found in the mother. The consequences of various types of aneuploidy of chromosome 16 are discussed.

A reciprocal translocation is described, t(4;21)(q27;p11), which occurs in a balanced carrier mother and her Down's syndrome child, 47,XX,t(4q-;21p+),+21. A review is presented of Down's syndrome associated with reciprocal translations involving chromosome No. 21.

BACKGROUND Thousands of infants and children are undergoing anesthesia around the world every day. But impacts of anesthetics on the developing neural system remain unclear yet. Previous evidence showed that anesthesia might affect the developing neural system. Thus, early-life anesthesia becomes a critical issue in clinical pediatric practice. Hence, propofol, a short-acting and widely applied...

The t(8;16)(p11;p13) translocation, associated with poor prognosis acute monocytic leukemia, fuses MYST3 on chromosome region 8p11 to CBP on chromosome region 16p13. Two types of MYST3-CBP and CBP-MYST3 fusion transcripts have been identified in patients. We describe two new types of MYST3-CBP transcripts and a new primer set.

Homeostatic regulation of spine number in mature hippocampal neurons results in more dendritic spines when synaptic transmission is blocked, providing a mechanism to compensate for diminished synaptic input. It is unsettled whether blockade of synaptic transmission also elevates spine number during development. To address this question, synaptic transmission was blocked in rat hippocampal slice...

We give a short overview on methods of Model (In-)Validation, that fit to the robust control framework. The idea is that the mismatch between a measured datum and an expected datum is explained by a disturbance signal w and an error model ∆, representing unmodelled dynamics. The key question is if there exists a pair (w,∆), sufficiently small, that can produce the measured datum. In particular,...

STUDY OBJECTIVES Previous investigators have suggested that quiet sleep (QS) in rats develops rapidly upon the emergence of cortical delta activity around postnatal day (P)11 and that the presence of "half-activated" active sleep (AS) suggests that infant sleep is initially disorganized. To address these issues, we examined the temporal organization of sleep states during the second postnatal w...
