“T are two problems in painting” said American artist Frank Stella (b. 1936) when he was still a brash young man. “One is to fi nd out what painting is, and the other is to fi nd out how to make a painting” (1). Stella’s interest in the defi nition of painting may have refl ected late 19thearly 20th-century modernist concerns. More contemporary concerns focus primarily on how to make a painting...

We address the problem of texturing flat surfaces by spray-painting through 3D printed stencils. We propose a system that (1) decomposes an image into alpha-blended layers; (2) computes a stippling given a transparency channel; (3) generates a 3D printed stencil given a stippling and (4) simulates the effects of spray-painting through the stencil.

Introduction: Heavy metals in chemical paints pollute the environment, including the refineries and painting workshops air, and can damage the workerschr('39') health. The level of knowledge and information of the workers in painting workshops with the harms of heavy metals is effective in improving their safety. The present study  investigated the knowledge, attitude and practice of activists ...

background: the newborn’s first bath, performed in neonatal intensive care units (nicu), is believed to be a stressful situation, especially for the premature infants. as a developmental care approach, swaddle bathing is a low-stress bathing method for vulnerable preterm neonates. given the limited number of the studies examining this bathing method, the present study was conducted with the aim...

objectives: in present study, we studied the effect of teaching three painting methods (free method, subject selection method and complementary method) on creativity of children with learning disabilities. first, among all disabled students, who refer to bizhani center for learning disabilities in arak city, 60 subjects were randomly selected as statistical sample. thus, the 45 children, divide...

In this work, we examine how the advantages of a digital painting application can be supplemented by distributing its elements among several devices that participate in a device federation. The paint system we describe is a proof-of-concept for an architecture that facilitates the creation of a distributed interaction space. The architecture handles end-user device discovery, distribution of us...

It describes each component element of Chinese ink painting in detail. Firstly, this paper presents brush emulation based on physical calculation. The brush model comprises a spine skeleton wrapped up a smooth surface which can be deformed through constrained energy minimization. The model can bend the skeleton and change the shape of the tuft when there is a force applied on the brush. Then, i...

We analyze the role of bath temperature, coherence and entanglement on excitation transfer in a spin chain induced by the environment. In Markovian regime, we show that coherence and entanglement are very sensitive to bath temperature and vanish in time in contrary to the case of having zero-temperature bath. That is while, finding the last qubit of the chain in excited state increases by incre...

In the emerging inter-disciplinary field of art and image processing, algorithms have been developed to assist the analysis of art work. In most applications, especially brush stroke analysis, high resolution digital images of paintings are required to capture subtle patterns and details in the high frequency range of the spectrum. Algorithms have been developed to learn styles of painters from...

Lifetime from: 2000 Lifetime to: 2003 Short description: Stochastic paintbrush rendering is an algorithm to simulate the painting process to get a picture similar to a real painting. The image can be described by the parameters of the consecutive paintbrush strokes, resulting in a parameter-series. In this project, we will explore this stroke-representation of images for Content Based Image Ret...
