UNLABELLED Malignant triton tumor (MTT) is defined as malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor with rhabdomyoblastic differentiation. Intracranial MTT is extremely rare, and only four cases have been reported in the literature. Here, we report a case of MTT occurring in the cerebellopontine angle, and describe its histopathological characteristics, immunohistochemical features, and prognosis. ...

Ultrasound scanning of a peripheral nerve along its expected course is a simple and useful method for determining the cause of peripheral neuropathy. We present 3 cases of peripheral neuropathy in which the pathology was detected by simple ultrasound scanning of the affected nerve. There were 2 cases of entrapment neuropathy due to mucoid cyst and 1 case of nerve sheath tumor. All lesions were ...

background:   valproic acid (vpa) is used to be an effective anti-epileptic drug and mood stabilizer. it has recently been demonstrated that vpa could promote neurite outgrowth, activate the extracellular signal regulated kinase pathway, and increases bcl-2 and growth cone-associated protein 43 levels in spinal cord. in the present research we demonstrate the effect of vpa on peripheral nerve r...

INTRODUCTION Malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumors (MPNSTs) are sarcomas which originate from peripheral nerves or from cells associated with the nerve sheath, such as Schwann cells, perineural cells, or fibroblasts. Because MPNSTs can arise from multiple cell types, the overall appearance can vary greatly from one case to the next. This can make diagnosis and classification somewhat difficu...

Atypical expression of CD44 splice variants has been implicated in the progression of numerous tumors. This abnormal CD44 expression is presumed to result from gene alterations that cause tumorigenic transformation. Two tumor types that have been linked to specific gene alterations are schwannomas, which have mutations in the neurofibromatosis (NF) type 2 (NF2) gene, and neurofibromas, which ch...
