We show that a large class of non–metric, non–symplectic affine holonomies can be realized, uniformly and without case by case considerations, by Weyl connections associated to the natural AHS–structures on certain generalized flag manifolds.
We investigate the use of large-scale Automated Highway Systems, also called one-dimensional vehicle platoons, as a practical traffic mitigation solution. We review recent theoretical results related to vehicle platooning and discuss their implications on the scalability and safety of large-scale platoons. We also quantify the performance of different platoon control strategies through simulati...
This paper addresses the problem of recognizing complex objects in images. The proposed approach is based on a prototype-centered object representation which describes objects as sets of local features. During an evolutionary learning step the model is derived from a set of sample images. The proceeding of the training is measured with regard to the recognition rate as well as the coverage of t...
This paper proposes an adaptive sliding mode control based on auxiliary distance sensor for nonlinear platoons over vehicular ad-hoc networks under Denial-of-Services (DoS) attacks and external disturbances. DoS can cause packet dropping the wireless network will lead to collision or degradation cruise of platoons. To solve this problem, Radial Basis Function (RBF) method is proposed attacked R...
This paper presents a method for analysis of automated highway throughput for AHS designs, including those with platooning. Simulation results are presented which show that increased information leads to higher throughput, and that a platooning design will have higher throughput than any individual vehicle design.

This article explores the coalitional stability of a new cooperative control policy for freeways and parallel queuing facilities with multiple servers. Based on predicted future delays per queue or lane, a VOT-heterogeneous population of agents can agree to switch lanes or queues and transfer payments to each other in order to minimize the total cost of the incoming platoon. The strategic inter...
In this paper, we propose a retrofit control method for stable network systems. The proposed approach is a decentralized control method that, rather than an entire system model, requires a model of the subsystem of interest for controller design. To design the retrofit controller, we use a novel approach based on hierarchical state-space expansion that generates a higherdimensional cascade real...
When modeling the acceleration and deceleration of drivers, there are three characteristic time constants that influence the dynamics and stability of traffic flow: The reaction time of the drivers, the velocity adaptation time needed to accelerate to a new desired velocity, and the numerical update time. By means of numerical simulations with a time-continuous car-following model, we investiga...
An important aspect of an automated highway system design is the synthesis of an automatic vehicle following system. Associated with automatic vehicle following systems is the problem of the stability of a string of vehicles, i.e., the problem of spacing error propagation, and in some cases, amplification upstream from one vehicle to another, due to some disturbance at the head of the string. R...
