Putrescine and spermidine uptake into carrot (Daucus carota L.) cells in culture was studied. The time course of uptake showed that the two polyamines were very quickly transported into the cells, reaching a maximum absorption within 1 minute. Increasing external polyamine concentrations up to 100 millimolar showed the existence of a biphasic system with different affinities at low and high pol...

BACKGROUND The thermodynamics of the base pair specificity of the binding of the polyamines spermine, spermidine, putrescine, and cadaverine with three genomic DNAs Clostridium perfringens, 27% GC, Escherichia coli, 50% GC and Micrococcus lysodeikticus, 72% GC have been studied using titration calorimetry and the data supplemented with melting studies, ethidium displacement and circular dichroi...

BACKGROUND Spermidine, a naturally occurring polyamine, has recently emerged as exhibiting anti-aging properties. Its supplementation increases lifespan and resistance to stress, and decreases the occurrence of age-related pathology and loss of locomotor ability. Its mechanisms of action are just beginning to be understood. OBJECTIVES An up-to-date overview of the so far identified mechanisms...

Polyamines play an important role in the maintenance of intestinal permeability. Therefore we aimed to determine effects probiotics and omega 3 fatty acids on serum polyamine levels colitis. Fifty BALB/c mice were randomly grouped as normal, colitis with no treatment applied, treated by (VSL#3), omega-3, both omega-3. Experimental was induced injection 200 mg/kg 2,4-Dinitrobenzenesulfonic acid ...

Pistacia vera cv Badami-e-riz and P.vera cv Ghazvini are the most important and popular rootstocks in Iran, which tolerate salinity and phytophthora fungi. This study was conducted to evaluate the effects of various concentrations of polyamines and IBA on root regeneration of transplanted bare- rooted ‘Badami-e-riz’ and ‘Ghazvini’ pistachio rootstocks. The mean comparison between IBA and polyam...

The physiological relationship between abiotic stress in plants and polyamines was reported more than 40 years ago. Ever since there has been a debate as to whether increased polyamines protect plants against abiotic stress (e.g., due to their ability to deal with oxidative radicals) or cause damage to them (perhaps due to hydrogen peroxide produced by their catabolism). The observation that ce...

Polyamines with diamine structures of chain length longer than 3C were essential for the synthesis of phosphatidic acid (PA) from ricinoleoyl-CoA and lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) by the castor LPA acyltransferase reaction, suggesting that polyamines modulate enzyme affinity for the acyl-CoA substrate in vivo.

The levels of polyamines are elevated in neoplastic lesions as compared with normal tissues, and cancer cells tend to manifest a robust dependence on these compounds for proliferation and survival. We have recently demonstrated that a novel approach to polyamine depletion suppresses tumor growth in a T cell-dependent manner, highlighting a poorly appreciated role of polyamines as strong modulat...

The plant growth regulator BM was formulated to stimulate seed production and fruit growth. In this study, it was hypothesized that the addition of BM would increase levels of polyamines for seed induction and have a direct benefit of improving fertilization and seed set in cotton. This benefit may enhance yield under extreme environmental conditions when endogenous polyamines content is reduced.
