This review covers methods for modifying the structures of polysaccharides. The introduction of hydrophobic, acidic, basic, or other functionality into polysaccharide structures can alter the properties of materials based on these substances. The development of chemical methods to achieve this aim is an ongoing area of research that is expected to become more important as the emphasis on using ...

A multipolymer reaction system has been developed in which a water-soluble polymer-supported 2,2'-bipyridine group and a similarly immobilized TEMPO derivative are used as ligands for copper to effect the mild and selective aerobic oxidation of primary alcohols in acetonitrile-water solvent. In this reaction system, poly(ethylene glycol) monomethyl ether (molecular weight = 5000 Da) was used as...

The integration of electro and bio-catalysis offers new ways making molecules under very mild, environmentally benign conditions. We show that TEMPO mediated electro-catalytic oxidation alcohols can be adapted to work in aqueous buffers, with minimal organic co-solvent, enabling biocatalytic reductive amination using the AdRedAm enzyme. combined process a approach amine alkylation native alcoho...

Using a-tetralone, as starting material, a series of phencyclidine analogues were synthesized. This ketone was reacted separately with ethylmagnesium bromide, P-methoxyphenylmagnesium bromide and P-methylphenylmagnesium bromide. The resultant alcohols were treated with a suspension of NaN3 and CCl3COOH in CHCl3. The azides were subsequently...

Alcohol is known to modulate the activity of a variety of neuroreceptors and ion channels. Recently, neuronal nicotinic acetylcholine receptors (nnAChRs) have become a specific focus of study because not only are they potently modulated by alcohol but also they regulate the release of various transmitters, including gamma-aminobutyric acid (GABA) and dopamine, which play an important role in th...

An enantioselective synthesis of the homoallenyl alcohols was achieved from the reaction of chiral 2-borylbutadiene with aldehydes through an allylic transfer reaction in good yields and enantioselectivities.

The genome of Sporomusa ovata strain H1 DSM 2662, an anaerobic, Gram-negative endospore-forming bacterium, was sequenced. S. ovata uses N-methyl compounds, primary alcohols, fatty acids, and H2 and CO2 as energy and carbon sources to produce acetate. The genome harbors one chromosome, which encodes proteins typical for sporulation.

The self-assembly of the dendritic dipeptides (4-3,4-3,5)nG2-CH2-Boc-L-Tyr-L-Ala-OMe and their achiral dendritic alcohol (4-3,4-3,5)nG2-CH2OH precursors, both with n = 1-16, where n represents the number of methylenic units in the alkyl groups of the dendron, are reported. All chiral dendritic dipeptides and achiral dendritic alcohols self-assemble into helical porous columns that are stable in...

This review summarizes the chemoenzymatic synthesis of the biologically active natural products based on a combination of chemical diastereoselectivity and enzymatic enantioselectivity using biocatalyst. Asymmetric reduction of 2-methyl-3-keto ester with yeast gave the optically active syn-2-methyl-3-hydroxy ester, which was converted to natural product such as (-)-oudemansin B. Asymmetric hydr...
