The dynamics and unpredictability of open environments pose a challenge to agent development. Agents operating in these environments must be able to adapt processing to the available resources and the current problem solving context. The ability to satisfice ubiquitously, in all aspects of agent problem solving, is the key to existing in these environments.
ModellingSpace is an open learning environment, particularly suitable for science education, which permits building of models by collaborating partners in various educational settings. This paper describes the main features of the ModellingSpace environment and in particular issues related with coordination and communication during problem solving. A number of evaluation studies of ModellingSpa...
Collaborative Interaction Analysis involves quantitative and qualitative techniques of coding and interpreting recorded group activities, mostly used by researchers of Computer Supported Collaborative Learning (CSCL). These techniques are usually tedious and necessitate specialized knowledge, so they are not suitable for everyday class practice. A hypothesis investigated in this paper is that s...
Lynn Wilss School of Learning & Development Queensland University of Technology This paper reports the findings of a pilot study aimed at improving learning outcomes from Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI). The study involved second year nursing students at the Queensland University of Technology. Students were assessed for their preferred cognitive style and presented with either matched or m...
Learning and Problem Solving with Multilayer Connectionist Systems
This article focuses on the problem solving process in design. Today, enterprises face an important need of innovation, as they have to regularly propose new products or new services. Design is one of the key activities of enterprises to be innovative, but it is also one of the more difficult activities to manage and especially to appreciate its performance. There exists many tools to evaluate ...
Timetabling the courses offered at the Computer Science Department of the University of Munich requires the processing of hard and soft constraints. Hard constraints are conditions that must be satisfied, soft constraints, however, may be violated, but should be satisfied as much as possible. This paper shows how to model our timetabling problem as a partial constraint satisfaction problem and ...

we introduce and discuss the homotopy perturbation method, the adomian decomposition method and the variational iteration method for solving the stefan problem with kinetics. then, we give an example of the stefan problem with kinetics and solve it by these methods.
We present an application that allows for easy creation of simple problem solving exercises in Java, providing robust and safe I/O as well as a basic graphics window. We discuss possible uses for unit testing of classes and explore how the design of this application can be a case study in an object oriented design course.
