We report on the experimental observation of an abrupt rise in the longitudinal momentum distribution of recoil ions created in proton helium collision. The details of this structure can be related to electrons traveling with the velocity of the projectile [electron capture to the continuum (ECC)]. The longitudinal as well as the transverse distribution of the recoil ions can be explained as a ...
Differential cross sections for electromagnetic dissociation in nucleus-nucleus collisions are calculated. The kinetic energy distribution is parameterized with a Boltzmann distribution and the angular distribution is assumed isotropic in the projectile frame. In order to be useful for three-dimensional transport codes, these cross sections are available in both the projectile and lab frames. C...
Abstract Theories of reactions of composite nuclei simplify considerably at energies of several 100 MeV/nucleon. Here Glauber methods provide a quantitative microscopic framework with a clear delineation of nucleon-nucleon scattering and nuclear structure inputs. However further approximations, tested for stable nuclei, are inappropriate for few-body halo nuclei with implications for analyses o...
We present INCL intra-nuclear cascade and ABLA de-excitation (evaporation/fission) models that can be used to calculate collisions between projectile particles and nuclei at energies from 0.2 to 3 GeV. Supported projectiles are proton, neutron, pions and light ions up to alpha. The optimal target materials range from carbon to uranium. We have extended the INCL model light ion projectile suppor...
We report on studies of collisions between 3 keV Ar+ projectile ions and neutral targets of isolated 1,3-butadiene (C4H6) molecules and cold, loosely bound clusters of these molecules. We identify molecular growth processes within the molecular clusters that appears to be driven by knockout processes and that could result in the formation of (aromatic) ring structures. These types of reactions ...
Abstract. Isomeric states in neutron-deficient nuclei around A≈190 have been identified following the projectile fragmentation of a relativistic energy 238U beam. The deduced isomeric ratios are compared with a model based on the abrasion-ablation description. The experimental isomeric ratios are lower by a factor of ≈2 than the calculated ones assuming the ‘sharp cutoff’ approximation. The obs...
