Therapeutic drug monitoring may be useful in tuberculosis management, but programmatic implementation is understudied. We performed a retrospective cohort study to determine prevalence of lower than expected levels of isoniazid, rifampin, ethambutol, and pyrazinamide measured at time of estimated peak serum concentration. Patients were tested for serum concentration at 2 hours after medication ...
Intestinal barrier function and serum concentrations of rifampin, isoniazid and pyrazinamide were studied in healthy controls and patients with active pulmonary tuberculosis. A case-control study of 29 controls and 30 cases attending at the Health Center, July, 2004 to December, 2005 was conducted. The body mass index was significantly reduced in cases compared to controls (p < 0.001). The inte...
A 61-year-old man was admitted to our hospital on September 2021 because of a three-month history fatigue, night sweats, and weight loss. The patient had been diagnosed with organized pneumonia treated methyl prednisolone at local hospital. One week before presentation hospital, he developed fever, cough, sputum shortness breath. Upon admission acid-fast resistant bacteria (ARB) urine ARB were ...
Mycobacterium bovis is best identified by screening those isolates of the Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex that have any pyrazinamide (PZA) resistance, using a confirmatory test such as spoligotyping, biochemical testing, or genomic deletion analysis. The sensitivity for detection of M. bovis is lowered to 82% when only PZA-monoresistant isolates are screened.
New regimens based on 2 or more novel agents are sought to shorten or to simplify treatment of tuberculosis (TB), including drug-resistant forms. Prior studies showed that the novel combinations of bedaquiline (BDQ) plus pretomanid (PMD) plus pyrazinamide (PZA) and PMD plus moxifloxacin (MXF) plus PZA shortened the treatment duration necessary to prevent relapse by 2 to 3 months and 1 to 2 mont...
BACKGROUND Tuberculosis is the world's leading infectious disease killer. We aimed to identify shorter, safer drug regimens for the treatment of tuberculosis. METHODS We did a randomised controlled, open-label trial with a multi-arm, multi-stage design. The trial was done in seven sites in South Africa and Tanzania, including hospitals, health centres, and clinical trial centres. Patients wit...
Tuberculosis is one of the leading infectious causes of death and as such represents a major global health problem. Infants may develop congenital tuberculosis from an infectious mother or, most commonly, they may acquire postnatal disease by contact with an infectious adult source. Important epidemiologic, pathogenetic, and clinical data regarding the management of infantile disease are review...
