Phylogenetic relationships among 50 Phytophthora species and between Phytophthora and other oomycetes were examined on the basis of the ITS sequences of genomic rDNA. Phytophthora grouped with Pythium, Peronospora, and Halophytophthora, distant from genera in the Saprolegniales. Albugo was intermediate between these two groups. Unlike Pythium, Phytophthora was essentially monophyletic, all but ...

Principally, plants grown in soilless culture may be attacked by the same pests and diseases as cultivated traditionally in soil. The most destructive phytopathogens are fungi, such as Phythium, Phytophthora and Fusarium, followed by viruses, bacteria and nematodes. We investigated effect of carbon nanotube filters on disease management of soilless culture. Tomato seedlings transplant in plasti...

The oomycete Pythium periplocum is an aggressive mycoparasite of a number of plant pathogenic fungi and oomycetes and therefore has potential as a biological control agent. Here, we report the first draft genome sequence of P. periplocum, which comprises 35.89 Mb. It contains 1,043 scaffolds and 14,399 predicted protein-coding genes.

The authors investigated mycoflora developing on the eggs of three species of the percid fish. At total of 45 aquatic fungi (including 26 as parasites or necrotrophs) were noted. Pythium capillosum is a new record for Poland. The highest number of fungus species developed on eggs of all percids in water from the Biala river, which had the highest content of biogenic compounds.

The ability of the microbial agent Pseudomonas (Ps.) chlororaphis Tx-1 to suppress Pythium aphanidermatum and Pythium dissotocum, and control root rot, was investigated as a function of time of agent application and pathogen inoculation in vegetativestage sweet peppers grown in single-plant hydroponic units. The agent was applied to the nutrient solution at 1 10 CFU/mL and roots were inoculated...

pythium species are cosmopolitan, fungus-like oomycotes which may cause diseases in plants, animals and even human beings. some of the species, however, are saprophytes and also well-proven biological control agents of plant pathogenic fungi. since 1968, when the first pythium species was reported from iran, ca 44 species, two varieties, and five groups of this genus have been reported from dif...

Pythium insidiosum is an oomycete that causes a life-threatening infectious disease called pythiosis in humans and animals living in tropical and subtropical countries. Here, we report the first draft genome sequence of P. insidiosum. The genome of P. insidiosum is 53.2 Mb and contains 14,962 open reading frames.

A strategy combining dual-suppression PCR and thermal asymmetric interlaced PCR was used to determine sequences flanking microsatellite regions in Pythium helicoides. The primer pairs were designed to amplify loci containing (AC)n, (GA)n, (AGC)n, (CAC)n(CAA)n, (TCA)n and (CTTT)n repeats from the P. helicoides nuclear genome. The PCR products of each primer pair, amplified from three representat...
