The mechanisms responsible for the development and course of rheumatic diseases are not yet fully explained. Molecular imaging is one of the tools used to investigate them, with nuclear medicine being its prominent part. Unlike computed tomography (CT), ultrasonography (USG), or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), which reveal only structural disorders, radioisotope imaging enables us to present ...
The exceptional affinity, specificity, and selectivity of antibodies make them extraordinarily attractive vectors for tumor-targeted PET radiopharmaceuticals. Due to their multi-day biological half-life, antibodies must be labeled with positron-emitting radionuclides with relatively long physical decay half-lives. Traditionally, the positron-emitting isotopes 124I (t1/2=4.18 d), 86Y (t1/2=14.7 ...
A review of staging investigations in the preoperative evaluation of mediastinal involvement in primary bronchial carcinoma is presented. The following conclusions are offered as guidelines for the use of mediastinal staging procedures in clinical practice: Surgical staging methods have the over-riding advantage of superior specificity over indirect imaging techniques. Where 67Ga-imaging or CT ...
UNLABELLED This study evaluated the use of gated versus nongated PET acquisitions for absolute quantification of radioisotope concentration (RC) in a respiratory motion-simulated moving phantom filled with radioactive spheres and background for both 2-dimensional (2D) and 3-dimensional (3D) acquisitions. METHODS An image-quality phantom with all 6 spheres filled with the same (18)F RC (range,...
The role of nuclear medicine diagnostic bone scanning is well established in prostate cancer. This case provides an insight into the specific role that bone scanning plays in monitoring response to hormone therapy and an example of significant global skeletal response. The case highlights the remarkable efficacy of timely hormone therapy in high-grade prostate cancer with widespread bony metast...
The diagnosis of acute osteomyelitis is often very difficult during the first 24 to 48 hours. Bone scanning has been a useful adjunct in this diagnosis by demonstrating increased uptake in the area or areas of involvement. Occasionally the pathological area is "cold" on scanning, which may lead to a misdiagnosis. This paper presents three cases demonstrating this unusual finding.
We describe a new technique, known as coregistration imaging, which superimposes 99mTc isotope bone scans on to plain radiographs. We used the technique selectively in cases in which the nuclear medicine physician, who reported the isotope scan, had difficulty in localising the anatomical site of the abnormality. In the forefoot, coregistration of isotope scans did not help to localise patholog...
The purpose of the present work was to introduce 141Ce-EDTMP as a novel potential future pain palliative agent to patients suffering from disseminated skeletal metastases and diagnostic imaging radioisotope as well. Cerium-141 [T1/2 = 32.501 days, Eβ (max) = 0.580 (29.8%) and 0.435(70.2%) MeV, Eγ = 145.44 (48.2%) keV] possesses radionuclidic properties suitable for use in palliative therapy of ...
Background & Aims: Copper-61 (61Cu) is a radioisotope with a half-life of 3.33 hours which decays to nickel-61 isotope byβ+ emission (61%) or electron capture (39%). This radioisotope can be used in the evaluation of the blood supply of the heart and low-oxygen cancer tissues imaging with PET. 61Cu is mainly produced by bombarding zinc (Zn), nickel (Ni) and cobalt (Co) targets in medium cyclot...
