BACKGROUND Khat (Catha Edulis Forsk) is a natural psychoactive substance that contains addictive substances such as Cathine and Cathinone which have similar structure and action to amphetamine. This substance has been suggested that it can decrease perceived exertion and thus improve performance. There is no study in the literature regarding the effect of khat on exercise performance. Therefore...

We show that the gravitino contribution to (g−2)μ is finite in many popular supergravity models, including no-scale supergravity and string and M-theory models. This contribution is greatly enhanced for very light gravitino masses, and leads to new upper bounds on the ratio of the smuon to the gravitino mass.

We introduce and study the random "locked" constraint satisfaction problems. When increasing the density of constraints, they display a broad "clustered" phase in which the space of solutions is divided into many isolated points. While the phase diagram can be found easily, these problems, in their clustered phase, are extremely hard from the algorithmic point of view: the best known algorithms...

The presence of another person can influence task performance. What is, however, still unclear is whether performance also depends on what this other person is doing. In two experiments, two participants (A and B) jointly performed a Simon task, and we selectively manipulated the difficulty of the task for participant A only. This was achieved by presenting A with 90% congruent trials (creating...

The Higgs sector of the Standard Model (SM) with one right-handed neutrino per family is systematically analyzed. In a model with intergenerational independent mixings between families, we can account for very light neutrinos acquiring Majorana masses radiatively at the first electroweak loop level. We also find that in such a scenario the Higgs coupling to the light–heavy neutrinos and to the ...

One very light neutral Higgs scalar with mass, say, below 40-50 GeV is still allowed in the non-supersymmetric 2HDM (Model II), while the remaining particles of the Higgs sector in this model have to be heavier. The possibility of testing such a scenario at Muon Colliders is discussed.

Despite the widespread availability of information concerning public transport coming from different sources, it is extremely hard to have a complete picture, in particular at a national scale. Here, we integrate timetable data obtained from the United Kingdom open-data program together with timetables of domestic flights, and obtain a comprehensive snapshot of the temporal characteristics of t...

BACKGROUND International partnerships in research are receiving ever greater attention, given that technology has diminished the restriction of geographical barriers with the effects of globalisation becoming more evident, and populations increasingly more mobile. DISCUSSION In this article, we examine the merits and risks of such collaboration even when strict universal ethical guidelines ar...

I both review and make the case for the current theoretical prejudice: a flat Universe whose dominant constituent is nonbaryonic dark matter, emphasizing that this is still a prejudice and not yet fact. The theoretical motivation for nonbaryonic dark matter is discussed in the context of current elementary-particle theory, stressing that (i) there are no dark-matter candidates within the "stand...
