Atorvastatin and ticagrelor combination is a widely accepted therapy for secondary prevention of ischaemic heart disease. However, rhabdomyolysis is a well-known rare side effect of statins which should be considered when treatments are combined with cytochrome P450 3A4 enzyme inhibitors. We report a case of atorvastatin and ticagrelor associated severe rhabdomyolysis that progressed to multior...

BACKGROUND Exercise-associated hyponatremia (EAH), rhabdomyolysis and renal failure appear to be a unique problem in ultra-endurance racers. METHODS We investigated the combined occurrence of EAH and rhabdomyolysis in seven different ultra-endurance races and disciplines (i.e. multi-stage mountain biking, 24-h mountain biking, 24-h ultra-running and 100-km ultra-running). RESULTS Two (15.4%...

BACKGROUND: Although granulocyte colony stimulating factor (G-CSF) mobilization is generally well tolerated by healthy donors, there is also a wide spectrum of adverse events associated with it. Among these events, rhabdomyolysis in peripheral blood stem cell (PBSC) donors is very rare. In this paper, we present a first case of rhabdomyolysis after administration of filgrastim for PBSC mobiliza...

A 32-year-old primigravida was admitted because of premature labor at 31 weeks of gestation. She had been diagnosed as having myotonic dystrophy by electromyographic investigations and abnormal serum creatinin...

Rhabdomyolysis is a rare but potentially fatal complication of hyperosmolar states. We report a case of severe hyperosmolar non-ketotic diabetic coma causing rhabdomyolysis in a young man. Despite very high levels of creatine kinase there was no detectable myoglobinuria. Creatine kinase estimation should be a standard investigation in all patients presenting with a hyperosmolar state.
