A 10-year-long field trial (between 2001 and 2010) was conducted to investigate the effect of paddy-upland rotation on rice yield, soil properties, and bacteria community diversity. Six types of paddy-upland crop rotations were evaluated: rice-fallow (control; CK), rice-rye grass (RR), rice-potato with rice straw mulches (RP), rice-rapeseed with straw incorporated into soil at flowering (ROF), ...

The Drying process is one of the most important factors which are effective on the milling quality of rice and its economic value. In order to investigate the effect of dryer parameters on milling quality of rice and their relationships, one of the usual rice varieties (Binam) of Gilan province with an average milling quality and the initial moisture content of 20.5% was selected. Drying proces...

Over the years, many rice morphotypes have appeared in paddy fields due to the autocratic nature of the rice plant. However, some of these morphotypes are problematic weeds and those which pose serious threat are commonly called as weedy rice (Oryza sativa L.) which has aggravated with the increase of direct-seeded culture technique (Ho et al., 1999). Besides, the presence of weedy rice in padd...

Quantitative trait loci (QTLs) associated with eating quality, grain appearance quality and yield-related traits were mapped in recombinant inbred lines (RILs) derived from closely related rice (Oryza sativa L. subsp. japonica) cultivars, Yukihikari (good eating quality) and Joiku462 (superior eating quality and high grain appearance quality). Apparent amylose content (AAC), protein content (PC...

There are technical difficulties in obtaining intact sections of cereal grains in which mature cells and their subcellular structures are well preserved. Here we describe a simple method for sectioning hard mature rice grains. It makes possible accurate localization of storage proteins in high-quality histological sections of rice endosperm.

BACKGROUND Previous studies have shown that a diet with a high-glycemic index is associated with good sleep quality. Therefore, we investigated the association of sleep quality with the intake of 3 common starchy foods with different glycemic indexes-rice, bread, and noodles-as well as the dietary glycemic index in a Japanese population. METHODS The participants were 1,848 men and women betwe...

Objective: The goal of this study was to identify commonly consumed grain food patterns in US adults (≥19 years old; N = 14,384) and compare nutrient intakes, with focus on 2015-2020 Dietary Guidelines’ shortfall nutrients, diet quality, and health parameters of those consuming various grain food patterns to those not consuming grains. Methods: This study conducted secondary analyses of the Nat...

Two experiments were conducted to investigate the effect of feeding cyanidin 3-glucoside (C3G) high black rice bran on nutrient digestibility, blood measurements, growth performance and pork quality of pigs. In Exp. I, a total of fifteen pigs (19.91±1.80 kg, average initial body weight) were used in assay of nutrient digestibility and blood measurements. All pigs were allotted to 5 treatments w...

Lead (Pb) caused interruptions with normal plant metabolism, crop yield losses and quality issues are of great concern. This study assessed the physio-biochemical responses, yield and grain quality traits and Pb distribution proportions in three different fragrant rice cultivars i.e., Meixiangzhan-2, Xinagyaxiangzhan and Basmati-385. Plants were exposed to 400, 800, and 1,200 ppm of Pb while po...
