-The isochromatic fringe patterns surrounding an intersonically propagating interface crack are developed and characterized using the recently developed stress field equations. A parametric investigation is conducted to study the influence of various parameters such as the crack-tip velocity and the contact coefficient on the isochromatic fringe patterns. It has been observed that the crack-tip...

We describe the fringe-packet tracking system used to equalize the optical path lengths at the Infrared Optical Telescope Array interferometer. The measurement of closure phases requires obtaining fringes on three baselines simultaneously. This is accomplished by use of an algorithm based on double Fourier interferometry for obtaining the wavelength-dependent phase of the fringes and a group-de...

An algorithm for accurately extracting the local fringe direction is presented. The algorithm estimates, in the neighborhood of n x n points, the direction of the gradient that points normal to the local fringe direction. The performance of four different derivative kernels is also compared. Since this method is sensitive to noise and variations in background and amplitude, a preprocessing step...

INTRODUCTION Many rural communities continue to experience an undersupply of primary care doctor services. While key professional factors relating to difficulties of recruitment and retention of rural primary care doctors are widely identified, less attention has been given to the role of community and place aspects on supply. Place-related attributes contribute to a community's overall amenity...

This study examines the effect of 13 strategic management activities on the financial performance of a national sample of 797 U.S. rural hospitals during the period of 1983-1988. Controlled for environment-market, geographic-region, and hospital-related variables, the results show almost no measurable effect of strategic adoption on rural hospital profitability and liquidity. Where statisticall...

Perinatal mortality is high in rural hospitals in South Africa. In part this is due to less than optimal care. This study determined the perinatal mortality experienced by a rural hospital and its clinics. Avoidable causes of death are described and various intervention strategies that effectively and rapidly prevented such deaths, reducing perinatal mortality by one-third, are outlined.

Recently, a study showed that generating sinusoidal fringe patterns by properly defocusing binary ones can significantly simplify three-dimensional shape measurement system development and drastically improve its speed. However, when the fringe stripes are very wide, it is very difficult for this technique to achieve high-quality measurement. This Letter presents a method to improve this techni...

This paper examines the effects of fringe benefits in the compensation package on performance of the Korean firms. Theoretically, fringe benefits have two implications in relation to employees: they are effective instruments that provide incentives; at the same time, some fringe benefits, especially the power-related benefits, are often used for exploitation of self-interests. Using a six-year ...

Three-dimensional profilometry by sinusoidal fringe projection using phase-shifting algorithms is usually distorted by the nonlinear intensity response of commercial video projectors. To overcome this problem, several methods including sinusoidal pulse width modulation (SPWM) were proposed to generate sinusoidal fringe patterns with binary ones by defocusing the project to some certain extent. ...

The formation of boundaries is a fundamental organizing principle during development. The Notch signalling pathway regulates this developmental patterning mechanism in many tissues. Recent data suggest that Notch receptors are involved in boundary determination during odontogenesis. It remains, however, uncertain if other components of the Notch pathway are also important for compartmental line...
