Smoothing and sharpening are two fundamental image processing operations. The latter is usually related to the former through unsharp masking algorithm. In this paper, we develop a new type of filter which performs smoothing or via tuning parameter. development based on (1) Laplacian-based formulation unifies operations, (2) patch interpolation model similar that used in guided provides edge-aw...

This short article is not meant to be understood as a paper on the foundations of physics, but purely concerned with the application of Newtonian mechanics to the dynamics of skiing. We neglect relativistic corrections, as well as quantum mechanical effects. In addition, we should mention that the paper contains a lengthy didactic presentation of a specific example of vector calculus. Neverthel...

A single line of epidermal seam cells lies along each side of the nematode C. elegans. During normal development, one of these cells, V5, produces a neuroblast that will give rise to a sensory structure, the postdeirid. If seam cells located either anterior or posterior to V5 are ablated however, this neuroblast formation is blocked. Because of this requirement for the presence of adjacent seam...

Mesh parameterization is a key problem in digital geometry processing. By cutting a surface along a set of edges (a seam), one can map an arbitrary topology surface mesh to a single chart. Unfortunately, high distortion occurs when protrusions of the surface (such as fingers of a hand and horses’ legs) are flattened into a plane. This paper presents a novel skeleton-based algorithm for computin...

The C. elegans epidermis is a simple epithelium comprised of three major cell types, the seam, syncytial and P cells. While specification of all major epidermal cells is known to require the ELT-1 GATA transcription factor, little is known about how the individual epidermal cell types are specified. We report that elt-5 and -6, adjacent genes encoding GATA factors, are essential for the develop...

A novel modeling method for 3D curve welding seam is presented in this paper based on a welding robot for large workpiece. The 3D curve welding seam tracking is implemented by macro and micro motion which can control translational motion of torch in a large range and implement accurate seam tracking in small range. As such, the self-teaching seam model and real-time seam model are established t...

We characterize all graphs that have carving-width at most k for k = 1, 2, 3. In particular, we show that a graph has carving-width at most 3 if and only if it has maximum degree at most 3 and treewidth at most 2. This enables us to identify the immersion obstruction set for graphs of carving-width at most 3.

The context of this paper is Enterprise Architecture (EA). EA is a multi-disciplinary approach that allows different specialists to design new business and IT systems and focuses on the integration of these systems. Our group develops a specific EA method that is called SEAM. The current version of SEAM has a formal denotational semantics for its modeling language. In order to provide model sim...

Caenorhabditis elegans seam cells divide in the stem-like mode throughout larval development, with the ability to both self-renew and produce daughters that differentiate. Seam cells typically divide asymmetrically, giving rise to an anterior daughter that fuses with the hypodermis and a posterior daughter that proliferates further. Previously we have identified rnt-1 (a homologue of the mammal...
