In several application domains ranging from automotive to aerospace (Garro, Groß, Riestenpatt Gen. Richter and Tundis, 2013; Falcone, Garro and Tundis, 2014; Garro, Groß, Riestenpatt Gen. Richter and Tundis, 2012; Garro and Tundis, 2012b; Garro and Tundis, 2012c; Garro, Tundis and Chirillo, 2011), a great variety of systems are currently designed and developed by organizing and integrating exis...

Recent studies show that microprocessor performance or its energy efficiency can be improved, if we utilize information regarding instruction criticality. This paper investigates why we could not achieve low energy consumption and high performance simultaneously, and reveals there is a fundamental problem in heuristics to identify critical in-

We study several deterministic one-dimensional traac models. For integer positions and velocities we nd the typical high and low density phases separated by a simple transition. If positions and velocities are continuous variables the model shows self-organized criticality driven by the slowest car.

This paper discusses the development of critical hospitality management research (CHMR) and explores key issues that such approaches raise. The paper is split into two parts. The first reviews contemporary writings that reflect the changing nature of hospitality management research and accounts for the emergence of a critical tradition. The second part identifies eight areas which are central c...

Adult education scholarship has been racialized through the lens of Eurocentric theory and research. Theoretical paradigms such as Africentrism struggle to gain academic legitimacy as discourses of transformative learning, critical thinking and self-direction all grounded in the European Enlightenment tradition of the individual pursuit of rational self-knowledge hold sway. This article reviews...

We perform an experimental study of the time behavior of the α-wave events occuring in human electroencephalographic signals. We find that the fraction of the time spent in an α-burst of time size τ exhibits a scaling behavior as a function of τ. The corresponding exponent is equal to 1.75±0.13. We therefore point out the existence of a new power law appearing in physiology. Furthermore, we sho...

We study the off-equilibrium two-point critical response and correlation functions for the relaxational dynamics with a coupling to a conserved density (Model C) of the O(N) vector model. They are determined in an ǫ = 4 − d expansion for vanishing momentum. We briefly discuss their scaling behaviors and the associated scaling forms are determined up to first order in ǫ. The corresponding fluctu...

As power system loading increases, larger blackouts due to cascading outages become more likely. We investigate a critical loading at which the average size of blackouts increases sharply to examine whether the probability distribution of blackout sizes shows the power tails observed in real blackout data. Three different models are used, including two simulations of cascading outages in electr...

Iran is expected to achieve a critical capability in mid-2014, which is defined as the technical capability to produce sufficient weapon-grade uranium from its safeguarded stocks of low enriched uranium for a nuclear explosive, without being detected. Iran would achieve this capability principally by implementing its existing, firm plans to install thousands more IR-1 centrifuges, and perhaps a...
