Considerable scope exists for the use of AI in camel breeding programmes but the technology is not fully developed. The fertility of both fresh and liquid-stored (24 h; 4°C) dromedary camel semen diluted in either Green Buffer (GB) or INRA-96 (INRA) was assessed. Different insemination doses were investigated: 150 and 300 x 10 motile sperm for fresh sperm, and 150, 300 and 600 x 10 motile sperm...

BACKGROUND Genital ureaplasmas (Ureaplasma urealyticum and Ureaplasma parvum) and mycoplasmas (Mycoplasma genitalium and Mycoplasma hominis) are potentially pathogenic species playing an etiologic role in both genital infections and male infertility. Reports are, however, controversial regarding the effects of these microorganisms infections in the sperm seminological variables. This study aime...

semen from six adult male black bengal goats (capra hircus) was collected to compare the fresh and frozen-thawed semen quality and investigate its relationship with the fertility. each collected samples was divided into two parts: one part of semen was used as fresh and another part was filled into 0.50 ml straws, sealed, cooled (5 ˚c) and equilibrated for freezing.in both cases, semen was dilu...

It is possible and clinically relevant to distinguish between slow and rapid progressive spermatozoa in basic semen analysis. This is discussed in light of the different purposes of semen analysis for the subfertile couple and the male patient. The two groups of progressive spermatozoa should be distinguished to help ensure that pertinent information available in the semen sample is not neglected.

This paper reports the use of a procedure for collection of semen from stallions by manual stimulation of the penis while the stallion is standing. Our use of this method with 18 stallions of various ages and types of semen collection experience indicates that this method may be an efficient alternative to traditional semen collection techniques using an artificial vagina and stimulus mare or d...

Male reproductive health in both humans and animals is an important research field in biological study. In order to characterize the morphology, the motility and the concentration of the sperm cells, which are the most important parameters to feature them, digital holography demonstrated to be an attractive technique. Indeed, it is a label-free, non-invasive and high-resolution method that enab...

The objective of this study was to compare fixed-time AI pregnancy rate in Angus crossbred beef cows inseminated with frozen-thawed or fresh-extended semen. Two ejaculates from each of two Angus bulls were collected by artificial vagina and pooled for each bull. The pooled semen from each bull was divided into two aliquots; Aliquot 1 was extended using Caprogen (LIC, Hamilton, New Zealand) to a...

In the first experiment, osmotic pressure of semen and seminal plasma in a semen sample from each of the 20 mature Nili-Ravi buffalo bulls was determined. In the second experiment, effects of osmotic pressure on motility (%), plasma membrane integrity (%) and viability (%) in fresh and frozen-thawed semen samples from each of the seven mature Nili-Ravi buffalo bulls was determined. In the first...

The identification of semen is of paramount importance in the investigation of rape and other crimes involving sexual assault. The most commonly used procedures for semen identification center on the detection of sperm o r the detection of prostatic acid phosphatase activity; methods involving the detection of spermine, choline, or semen antigens are less commonly employed. Unfortunately, none ...
