In this year’s Semantic Textual Similarity evaluation, we explore the contribution of models that provide soft similarity scores across spans of multiple words, over the previous year’s system. To this end, we explored the use of neural probabilistic language models and a TF-IDF weighted variant of Explicit Semantic Analysis. The neural language model systems used vector representations of indi...

We find that both continuous and discontinuous hexatic-liquid transitions can happen in the melting of two-dimensional solids of soft-core disks. For three typical model systems, Hertzian, harmonic, and Gaussian-core models, we observe the same scenarios. These systems exhibit reentrant crystallization (melting) with a maximum melting temperature T_{m} happening at a crossover density ρ_{m}. Th...

The number of resources available in largest reconfigurable devices enables the synthesis of systems with more than 100 Soft-Core processors. Although being a feasible and attainable alternative, few such systems have been built and few works propose methods to create, program and optimize this kind of systems. In this work we present a methodology that helps the designer to built MPSoC systems...

Using event-driven molecular dynamics simulations, we study a three-dimensional one-component system of spherical particles interacting via a discontinuous potential combining a repulsive square soft core and an attractive square well. In the case of a narrow attractive well, it has been shown that this potential has two metastable gas-liquid critical points. Here we systematically investigate ...

In this paper we propose a technique for software-implementation of an lifting with the goal of getting a customizable lifting DWT-core which can be used as a module in implementing a bigger system irrespective of ones choice of implementation platform. Here we have written the core processor Microblaze is designed in VHDL (VHSIC hardware description language), implemented using XILINX ISE 8.1 ...

Offloading the complex computational kernel from the processor is the common way to improve performance of embedded system. In our work we are using MicroBlaze softcore processor in design and implementation of acceleration framework. In acceleration framework MicroBlaze is coupled with co-processor with the help of communication bus. We can attach the co-processor to our design that can handle...

With security and surveillance, there is an increasing need to process image data efficiently and effectively either at source or in a large data network. Whilst a Field-Programmable Gate Array has been seen as a key technology for enabling this, the design process has been viewed as problematic in terms of the time and effort needed for implementation and verification. The work here proposes a...

There is an increasing interest in the aerospace industry to reduce the cost of the systems by means of using Commercial Off The Shelf (COTS) devices. The engineering of novel microsatellites and nanosatellites are clear examples of this new trend. However, the use of sub-micron technologies has led to greater sensitivity of these devices to radiation-induced transient faults, limiting the expl...

An investigation into the properties of a two dimensional (2D+1) system of self propelled particles (known as boids) in free space is conducted using a Lagrangian Individual-Based Model. A potential, associated with each boid is specified and a Lagrangian is subsequently derived in order to obtain the equations of motion for each particle in the flock. The Morse potential and the Lennard-Jones ...

In the framework of the perturbation theory for fluids we study the model with the isotropic repulsive step potential which in addition to the hard core has a repulsive soft core of a larger radius. It is shown that this purely repulsive potential is sufficient to explain a liquid-liquid phase transition and liquid anomalies.
