We give a new integrable boundary condition in affine Toda theory which is soliton-preserving in the sense that a soliton hitting the boundary is reflected as a soliton. All previously known integrable boundary conditions forced a soliton to be converted into an antisoliton upon reflection. We prove integrability of our boundary condition using a generalization of Sklyanin’s formalism.

We construct an exact soliton, which represents a BPS Dp-brane, in a boundary string field theory action of infinitely many non-BPS D(p − 1)-branes. Furthermore, we show that this soliton can be regarded as an exact soliton in the full string field theory. The world-volume theory of the BPS Dp-brane constructed in this way becomes usual gauge theory on commutative R, instead of non-commutative ...

Soliton in the hostile turbulent wave dark matter ($\Psi$DM) halo of a galaxy agitates with various kinds excitation, and soliton even breathes heavily under great stress. A theory collective excitation for $\Psi$DM is presented. The has different degrees coupling to negative energy modes, where lower-order generally necessitates more coupling. constrained variational principle developed assess...

Hedgehog model predictions for the leading nonanalytic behavior (in m 2 π) of certain observables are shown to agree with the predictions of chiral perturbation theory up to an overall factor which depends on the operator. This factor can be understood in terms of contributions of the ∆ isobar in chiral loops. These physically motivated contributions are analyzed in an expansion in which both m...

Heterotic and type II superstrings have, when toroidally-compactified to D=4, N=4 and N=8 supersymmetry, respectively. The (generic) effective N=4 or N=8 supergravity theory has, in both cases, 28 U(1) gauge fields and hence particles in the spectrum may carry any of 56 electric or magnetic charges; we may therefore associate to each particle in the spectrum a charge 56-vector Z. In perturbatio...

We give a pedagogical introduction to string theory, D-branes and p-brane solutions. 1 Introductory remarks These notes are based on lectures given at the 271-th WE-Haereus-Seminar ‘Aspects of Quantum Gravity’. Their aim is to give an introduction to string theory for students and interested researches. No previous knowledge of string theory is assumed. The focus is on gravitational aspects and...

As a first step toward a fully two-dimensional asymptotic theory for the bifurcation of solitons from infinitesimal continuous waves, an analytical theory is presented for line solitons, whose envelope varies only along one direction, in general two-dimensional periodic potentials. For this two-dimensional problem, it is no longer viable to rely on a certain recurrence relation for going beyond...

I analyze the one-dimensional, cubic Schrödinger equation, with nonlinearity constructed from the current density, rather than, as is usual, from the charge density. A soliton solution is found, where the soliton moves only in one direction. Relation to higher-dimensional Chern–Simons theory is indicated. The theory is quantized and results for the two-body quantum problem agree at weak couplin...

In the past three decades, traveling wave solutions to the Korteweg–de Vries equation have been studied extensively and a large number of theoretical issues concerning the KdV equation have received considerable attention. These wave solutions when they exist can enable us to well understand the mechanism of the complicated physical phenomena and dynamical processes modeled by these nonlinear e...

The bifurcation of internal modes from the phonon band in models supporting solitary wave solutions has been one of the exciting new phenomena in the field. We will present a number of analytical and semi-analytical techniques for the detection, study and understanding of these modes. We will see how they appear, without threshold, due to the discretization of the continuum equations. This pert...
