Fast Marching and Fast Sweeping are the two most commonly used methods for solving the Eikonal equation. Each of these methods performs best on a different set of problems. Fast Sweeping, for example, will outperform Fast Marching on problems where the characteristics are largely straight lines. Fast Marching, on the other hand, is usually more efficient than Fast Sweeping on problems where cha...

Applying the fast marching method to solve the eikonal equation on the 3-D SEG/EAGE salt-dome model demonstrates two key features of the method, stability and efficiency. Such an application, also reveals some of the accuracy deficiencies of the Cartesian-coordinate implementation of the fast marching method. The accuracy is improved by applying the fast marching method in spherical coordinates...

We compare the computational performance of the Fast Marching Method, the Fast Sweeping Method and the Fast Iterative Method to determine a numerical solution to the eikonal equation. We point out how the Fast Iterative Method outperforms the other two thanks to its parallel processing capabilities.

A new surface based approach to implicit surface polygonisation is introduced in this paper. This is applied to the reconstruction of 3D surface models of complex objects from multiple range images. Geometric fusion of multiple range images into an implicit surface representation was presented in previous work. This paper introduces an efficient algorithm to reconstruct a triangulated model of ...

A multiple-shooting marching technique is described which is applicable to arbitrary block tridiagonal matrices derived from nonseparable difference equations which are solved many times. Comparison with other methods on a particular problem shows the method to be competitive with respect to time and storage. Introduction. Our interest here is in solving the difference equation which results fr...

Freehand three-dimensional ultrasound imaging is a highly attractive research area because it is capable of volumetric visualization and analysis of tissues and organs. The reconstruction algorithm plays a key role to the construction of three-dimensional ultrasound volume data with higher image quality and faster reconstruction speed. However, a systematic approach to such problem is still mis...
