We have developed a general electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) method to measure electrostatic potential at spin labels on proteins to millivolt accuracy. Electrostatic potential is fundamental to energy-transducing proteins like myosin, because molecular energy storage and retrieval is primarily electrostatic. Quantitative analysis of protein electrostatics demands a site-specific spectrosc...
We present an experimental study of the longitudinal electron-spin relaxation of ensembles of negatively charged nitrogen-vacancy (NV–) centers in diamond. The measurements were performed with samples having different NV– concentrations and at different temperatures and magnetic fields. We found that the relaxation rate T–1 1 increases when transition frequencies in NV – centers with different ...
Integral encounter theory is applied to investigate spin eects in radical recombination. Eects of electron spin relaxation and of S=T0 mixing by an external magnetic ®eld are considered. An analytical expression for the stationary rate constant is obtained from which appropriate conditions for experimental investigations are predicted. Ó 2000 Elsevier Science B.V. The spin dynamics of substituted colossal magnetoresistive CMR manganites of general formula La0.7Pb0.3 Mn1−xFex O3, 0 x 0.2 is investigated by means of neutron spin-echo measurements. Substitution of Mn by Fe leads to a strong decrease of the temperature of macroscopic magnetic long-range ordering with a concomitant enhancement of the CMR effect. For x=0.2, a long-range-ordered state is not ac...
Energy relaxation is studied in the spin-polarized disordered electron systems in the diffusive regime. We derive a quantum kinetic equation in which the kernel of the electron-electron collision integral explicitly depends on the electron magnetization. As a consequence, the inelastic scattering rate has a nonmonotonic dependence on the spin polarization of the system.
The electron spin relaxation times measured in ESR spectroscopy are physically distinct from the electron spin relaxation times which appear in the theory of NMR Paramagnetic Relaxation Enhancement ~NMR-PRE!. ESR involves decay of a perturbed spin density matrix toward thermal equilibrium, while in NMR-PRE measurements, the electron spin density matrix remains at thermal equilibrium throughout ...
