Selected data from the Tamil Nadu Integrated Nutrition Project (TINP) indicated that growth monitoring with the entire package of services (rather than just regular weighing) in TINP was associated with improved child nutritional status. It was maintained that the benefits of growth monitoring existed over and above those of supplementary feeding. Over 85% of the children in poor communities, i...

We apply the techniques of logic programming to evaluate structure charts. We find that structure charts can be represented naturally in Prolog, and useful information can be derived in a straightforward manner. Standard techniques in the evaluation of structure charts can be formalized, and a few previous problems can be solved easily.

It is well known that in late preterm infants the mortality and the morbidity are higher than in term neonates. The rate of complications decreases with the progression of gestational age through the late preterm period [1]. Intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) is one of the cause for late preterm delivery and it occurs more often in late preterm infants than terms ones. Itself constitutes a ...

Gairdner, D., and Pearson, J. (1971). Archives of Disease in Childhood, 46, 783. A growth chart for premature and other infants. The growth chart covers the period from 28 weeks of fetal life to age 2 years, and allows weight, length, and head circumference to be charted. The time scale is logarithmic, providing the convenience of an extended scale for the earlier months of life, and giving the...

• The Shewhart control charts, used for monitoring industrial processes, are the most popular tools in Statistical Process Control (SPC). They are usually developed under the assumption of independent and normally distributed data, an assumption rarely true in practice, and implemented with estimated control limits. But in general, we essentially want to control the process mean value and the p...

BACKGROUND Before estimating smoothed percentiles of weight-for-height and BMI-for-age to construct the WHO growth charts, WHO excluded observations that were considered to represent unhealthy weights for height. OBJECTIVE The objective was to estimate the effects of similar data trimming on empirical percentiles from the CDC growth-chart data set relative to the smoothed WHO percentiles for ...

Equations for target height estimation designed for easy use in the Australian growth clinics are presented that are based on the standard deviation score method of Hermanussen and Cole. These equations are superior to the commonly used corrected midparental height method as they account for assortative mating and regression to the mean. Simulations using different mating types were performed t...

BACKGROUND The growth of youth with Down syndrome (DS) differs from that of youth without DS, and growth charts specific to DS have been developed. However, little is known about the growth of Brazilian youth with DS. The objective of this study was to construct growth charts for Brazilian youth with DS and compare the growth data with the Child Growth Standards of the World Health Organization...
