Chandra observations of the compact galaxy group known as Stephan’s Quintet (SQ) are presented. The major morphological features that were discovered with the ROSAT HRI are now imaged with higher resolution and S/N. The large scale shock (1.′5, ∼40kpc if at 85 Mpc) is resolved into a narrow NS feature embedded in more extended diffuse emission (D≥ 3′). The NS structure is somewhat clumpy, more ...

The MSSM with a light right-handed stop and supersymmetric models with a singlet whose vev is comparable to that of the SU(2)W Higgs allow for a strongly first-order electroweak phase transition even for a mass of the lightest Higgs around 100 GeV. After a short review of the standard model situation we discuss these supersymmetric models. We also compare perturbative calculations based on the ...

Part of what Schmidheiny has done is to reinvest in Latin American forest properties. According to recent Swiss accounts, Stephan Schmidheiny began buying Chilean forest land in 1982, and he now owns over 120,000 hectares in Southern Chile, near Concepcion, land which the Mapuche Indians claim has been theirs since time immemorial. The Mapuche charge that some of the land Schmidheiny bought was...

The recognition of objects that appear in a video sequence is an essential aspect of any video content analysis system. We present an approach which classifies a segmented video object based on its appearance (object views) in successive video frames. The classification is performed by matching curvature features of the contours of these object views to a database containing preprocessed views ...
