Environmental and Biological Monitoring of Styrene Exposure: Urinary Excretion of DGlucaric Acid Compared with Exposure Indices: M.L. SCAPELLATO, et al. Istituto di Medicina del Lavoro, Università degli Studi di Padova—Styrene, oxidized by liver microsomal enzymes, can determine a liver enzyme induction. Urinary excretion of Dglucaric acid (DGA), which is believed to estimate this effect, was m...
Pseudomonas putida CA-3 is a styrene-degrading bacterium capable of accumulating medium-chain-length polyhydroxyalkanoate (mclPHA) when exposed to limiting concentrations of a nitrogen source in the growth medium. Using shotgun proteomics we analysed global proteome expression in P. putida CA-3 supplied with styrene as the sole carbon and energy source under N-limiting (condition permissive for...
Micellar mannose nanoparticles were constructed from poly{styrene-co-[(maleic anhydride)-alt-styrene]} with fluorophores or quenchers doped into the hydrophobic inner cores, allowing the direct monitoring of multivalent lectin-glycan interactions. The mannose-displaying nanoparticles bind Con A and sperm surface lectins with high affinity, suggesting their broad utility for modulating protein-c...
We report the first example of direct electrochemical regeneration of a flavin-dependent monooxygenase for asymmetric epoxidation catalysis. It is shown that electrochemical regeneration of the oxygenase subunit of the multicomponent styrene monooxygenase is sufficient to perform enantiospecific S-epoxidation of various styrene derivatives. Kinetic bottlenecks of the novel electroenzymatic reac...
Polyoxometalates (POMs) covalently functionalized with methyl methacrylate groups were applied as surfactants in the emulsion polymerization reaction of styrene. Due to the copolymerization of the methyl methacrylate groups and the styrene monomers, the polyoxometalate clusters are covalently grafted onto the surface of polystyrene latex nanoparticles. Such latex particles are fully covered wit...
Ultrathin copper oxide (CuO) nanorods with diameters of ∼3.6 nm were obtained in one step using oleylamine (OAm) as both the solvent and the surface controller. The oriented attachment is responsible for the formation of the ultrathin CuO nanorods. Furthermore, this ultrathin nanostructure catalyst exhibited excellent activity and high styrene oxide yields in styrene epoxidation.
Proteomics and targeted gene disruption were used to investigate the catabolism of benzene, styrene, biphenyl, and ethylbenzene in Rhodococcus jostii RHA1, a well-studied soil bacterium whose potent polychlorinated biphenyl (PCB)-transforming properties are partly due to the presence of the related Bph and Etb pathways. Of 151 identified proteins, 22 Bph/Etb proteins were among the most abundan...
Abstract As a monomer, the [N-(alanine)] para-styrene sulfonamide (ASS) was prepared, from the reaction of para-styrene sulfonyl chloride and (S)-(+)-alanine in the presence of KOH 1M as a base, and CH3Cl was used as solvent. The monomer confirmed using FT-IR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy. Polystyrene [N-(alanine) sulfonamide] (PASS) was also prepared from the polymerization of [N-(alanine)] pa...
New bis(phenolate)amine-supported neodymium borohydride complexes and their previously reported samarium analogues were tested as catalysts for the polymerisation of styrene and isoprene. Reaction of Na2O2N(L) (L = py, OMe, NMe2) with Nd(BH4)3(THF)3 afforded the borohydride complexes Nd(O2N(L))(BH4)(THF) (L = py (1-Nd), OMe (2-Nd), NMe2 (3-Nd)). Complex 1-Nd has shown a propensity to form pheno...
