Chronic subdural hematomas (CSHs) are generally regarded to be a traumatic lesion. It was regarded as a stroke in 17th century, an inflammatory disease in 19th century. From 20th century, it became a traumatic lesion. CSH frequently occur after a trauma, however, it cannot occur when there is no enough subdural space even after a severe head injury. CSH may occur without trauma, when there is s...

Objective Chronic subdural hematoma is a common and relatively benign disease. However, recurrence is common after surgical treatment, and the recurrence rate varies from 5% to 33%. The aim of this study was to investigate the predictive factors for recurrence of chronic subdural hematoma. Methods We analyzed data from 248 patients with chronic subdural hematoma who were treated by burr-hole ...

MR images of 24 patients with 33 subdural collections were retrospectively reviewed to determine the spectrum of MR findings associated with such lesions. The lesions were dated by history, when available. Hematomas were grouped as follows: acute, four; early subacute, four; late subacute, four; chronic, 13. Six collections were classified as rehemorrhage; and two patients had CSF hygromas. Sub...

Chronic subdural hematoma (CSDH) and symptomatic subdural hygroma are common diseases that require neurosurgical management. Burr hole trephination is the most popular surgical treatment for CSDH and subdural hygroma because of a low recurrence rate and low morbidity compared with craniotomy with membranectomy, and twist-drill craniotomy. Many reports suggest that placing a catheter in the subd...

Dural metastasis (pachimeningeal carcinomatosis) refers to involvement of dura mater and subdural or epidural spaces in systemic cancer. Although dural metastasis are relatively frequent in malignancies, (8-9% of patients with advanced systemic cancer in autopsy), they are rarely associated with subdural hematoma. We present the case of a 66-year-old male, refereed to the hematological unit for...

Spinal anesthesia is widely used for many obstetric, gynecological, orthopedic, and urological operations. Subdural hematomas may occur after trauma and are associated with high morbidity and mortality rates. Postdural puncture headache (PDPH) is a benign condition and the most frequent complication of spinal anesthesia. The high rate of headache after spinal anesthesia may mask or delay the di...

BACKGROUND Post-traumatic acute subdural hematomas generally appear hyperdense on a computed tomography scan. In the hyperacute stage, a subdural hematoma in rare cases appears heterogeneous with isodense images. This can pose a diagnostic problem and compromise patient care. Here we report a case of an isodense subdural hematoma and its management. CASE PRESENTATION We report the case of a 5...

Although numerous articles have appeared in the literature on chronic isodense subdural hematomas, acute isodense subdural hematomas have received little attention. An experimental model was developed that demonstrated that blood with reduced hemoglobin concentration, 8-10 g/dl, is isodense with the brain. Two anemic patients with acute isodense subdural hematomas are reported.

Acute subdural hematoma is usually a neurological emergency that requires hematoma evacuation or close observation. However, spontaneous resolutions of an acute subdural hematoma without surgical interventions have been reported rarely. We report on a case who showed rapid resolution of an acute subdural hematoma with neurological improvement and review the relevant literatures.
