Nanofluids are becoming increasingly popular as heat transfer fluids in a variety of industrial applications, due to their enhanced heat transfer characteristics. The thermal conductivity of nanofluids is usually found to be much larger than that predicted from the classical models, such as the Maxwell model. The key mechanism of enhancement of thermal conductivity of dilute nanofluids is the s...

The microstructural analysis of Thermal Barrier Coatings, deposited according to the Air Plasma Spray technology, furnishes information according which a strong orthotropic thermal conductivity is expected to be measured for such a material. Pulsed experiment with a localized heating source and thermographic temperature recording, permit to evaluate both the in-depth and in-plane components of ...

A method for measuring K, the coefficient of thermal conductivity, for a variety of dog tissues is described. The values of K for muscle and liver are larger than that for water, the value of K for lung is smaller than that for water and the values of K for brain, plasma, and blood are about the same as that of water. The values found for K are given in a table.

Mitigation of the global energy crisis requires tailoring the thermal conductivity of materials. Low thermal conductivity is critical in a broad range of energy conversion technologies, including thermoelectrics and thermal barrier coatings. Here, we review the chemical trends and explore the origins of low thermal conductivity in crystalline materials. A unifying feature in the latest material...

Thermal transport measurements in multi-wall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) bundles at elevated temperatures up to 830 K are reported using a novel generalized electrothermal technique. Compared with individual CNTs, the thermal conductivity (k) of MWCNT bundles is two to three orders of magnitude lower, suggesting the thermal transport in MWCNT bundles is dominated by the tube-to-tube thermal contact...

Samples of surimi were prepared in laboratory conditions from Adriatic pilchard (Sardina pilchardus). Water content in surimi was 81.5% before mixing with NaCl and κ-carrageenan, which were added in the range of mass fraction from 0 to 10%. Relative apparent specific enthalpy !, initial freezing point Ti, density ρ, and thermal conductivity k of surimi in the temperature range from -25 C to 10 ...

Thermal conductivity is important for almost all applications involving heat transfer. The theory and modeling of crystalline materials is in some sense a solved problem, where one can now calculate their thermal conductivity from first principles using expressions based on the phonon gas model (PGM). However, modeling of amorphous materials still has many open questions, because the PGM itself...

The thermal conductivity of sunflower seed was determined as a function of moisture content, bulk density and temperature which varies from 0.1 to 30.48% (w.b.) and 437.14 to 352.5 kg/m and 22 to 46°C, 3 respectively. The slope of the linear portion ( T versus ln(t)) method was used to analyze the line source heating data for thermal conductivity determination. Bulk density of sunflower seeds f...
