In this paper, we investigate a mean-square stabilizing solution to a modified algebraic Riccati equation (MARE), which arises in our previous work on the linear quadratic optimal control for linear time-invariant discrete systems with random input gains. An explicit necessary and sufficient condition ensuring the existence of a mean-square stabilizing solution is given directly in terms of the...

Predictive control has been first developed to control Linear Time Invariant plants, described by ARIMAX models. The extension of this control strategy in the case when the behavior of the plant is non linear and modeled by a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model is considered here. This kind of nonlinear model is locally linear and the GPC technique can be extended as a parallel distributed controller.

The paper deals with a novel method of control system design which applies meromorphic transfer functions as models for retarded linear time delay systems. After introducing an auxiliary state model a finite-spectrum observer is designed to close a stabilizing state feedback. The observer finite spectrum is the key to implement a state feedback stabilization scheme and to apply the affine param...

A method is presented to minimize residual vibration of structures or lightly damped servomechanisms. The method, referred to as the proportional plus multiple delay (PPMD) control, involves the use of multiple time delays in conjunction with a proportional part to cancel the dynamics of the system in a robust fashion. An interesting characteristic of the controller involves addition of a basic...

Overlapping quadratic optimal control of linear time-invariant systems and a commutative class of continuous-time time-varying systems has been recently developed by using a generalized structure of complementary matrices. It has been shown that these structures offer a powerful and effective mean for decentralized control design for these classes of systems. In this paper, these structures are...

A variant factor (VF) technique is developed for the control design of a class of single-input and single-output affine nonlinear systems with input saturation. The main ideas of VF are to convert an affine nonlinear system into a linear time-invariant system similar to the dynamic inversion and then to use the ideas of the composite nonlinear feedback (CNF) technique to design a control law fo...

Two seemingly independent streams of control systems research have examined logarithmic sensitivity integrals and limiting linear quadratic optimal control problems. These apparently diverse problems yield some results with an identical right hand side. The main contribution of this paper is to directly explain the commonality between these streams. This explanation involves the use of Parseval...

In this paper a description of a consistent design of an embedded hard real-time control system is given. To provide for the overall predictability of tasks' temporal behaviour, which is the ultimate requirement in such systems, all innuencing factors are taken into account in a holistic manner: system and hardware architecture, operating system issues , programming language and application des...
