Density functional theory calculations show that both ring opening and chain dissociation of polymeric triazoles are facilitated by mechanical stretching of the molecules--the latter more than the former. Experimentally observed ring opening upon sonication can therefore not be explained by a mechanical stretching mechanism alone.

Hexaphenylbenzene (HPB) and hexa-peri-hexabenzocoronene-(HBC) functionalised 1,2,3-triazoles have been synthesised using an optimised copper(i)-catalysed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction. The coordination chemistry of these ligands was explored through the synthesis of the respective palladium(ii) complexes and their activity as catalysts in the Suzuki-Miyaura reaction assessed.

Thirteen new triazoles containing 1,3-dioxolane rings were synthesized and their identities confirmed by means of IR, NMR, MS, elemental analysis and X-ray crystallography. A solvent-free synthesis of 1,4-disubstituted-1,2,3-triazoles using neat azides and alkynes and a copper(I) polymer supported catalyst (Amberlyst) A21*CuI) is presented herein. As it provides the products in high yields and purities within minutes, this method thus being characterized as a "flash" synthesis, and was exemplified through the synthesis of a 24-compound library on a small scale.

Active and selective catalysts for the asymmetric reduction of ketones, under transfer hydrogenation conditions, were obtained by combining [RhCl(2)Cp*](2), with a series of l-amino acid thioamide ligands functionalized with 1,2,3-triazoles. The obtained secondary alcohol products were formed with up to 93% ee.

The use of voriconazole, a trifluorinated antifungal, has been associated with the development of fluoride excess and periostitis/exostoses. We evaluated a cohort of patients on long-term triazole therapy and found that other fluorinated triazoles (fluconazole and posaconazole) conferred no risk for the development of hyperfluorosis and its complications in our cohort.
