Trichophyton rubrum is one of the major causative agents of dermatophytosis in humans worldwide. We report the draft genome sequence of T. rubrum var. raubitschekii from Delhi, India, isolated from a patient presenting symptoms of onychomycosis. The total estimated genome size of the clinical isolate is 25.2 MB containing 8265 predicted protein-coding sequences, 91 tRNA and 15 rRNA genes. Seque...

BACKGROUND Dermatophytes are fungi that can cause infections of skin, hair and nails because of their ability to feed on keratin. Superficial mycoses are among the most prevalent infectious diseases worldwide. Two important restrictions of current therapeutic options are the recurrence of the infection and prolonged treatment. This is especially true for infections caused by Trichophyton rubrum...

One hundred eleven clinical Trichophyton rubrum isolates were tested against 7 antifungal agents. The geometric mean MICs of all isolates were, in increasing order: terbinafine, 0.03 mg/liter; voriconazole, 0.05 mg/liter; posaconazole, 0.11 mg/liter; isavuconazole, 0.13 mg/liter; itraconazole, 0.26 mg/liter; griseofulvin, 1.65 mg/liter; and fluconazole, 2.12 mg/liter.

Thirty-nine Arthroderma vanbreuseghemii isolates identified by mating behavior were assayed to determine their ribosomal RNA gene internal transcribed spacer (ITS) region genotypes. Twenty-two isolates of mating type (+) and 4 of (-) showed the genotype of Trichophyton mentagrophytes var. interdigitale, 9 isolates of mating type (+) and 4 of (-) showed the genotype of A. vanbreuseghemii. Nine o...

The main etiological agents in dermatophytosis of human skin and nails are Trichophyton, particular Trichophyton rubrum (T. rubrum) mentagrophytes mentagrophytes). A new series twenty-three 3- 4-arylcoumarins was synthesized the antifungal activities against clinical isolates T. were evaluated. Sixteen out molecules exhibited activity one or both fungi strains. In some cases, has been comparabl...

Production of interleukin-8 (IL-8) and tumor necrosis factor alpha (TNF-alpha) was confirmed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay in a medium where human epidermal keratinocytes were cocultured with Trichophyton mentagrophytes for 1 to 12 h. IL-8 and TNF-alpha mRNAs were also detected in the keratinocytes cocultured with T. mentagrophytes.

Trichophyton rubrutm is a dermatophyte that causes chronic and often serious superficial mycoses in man. Aside from descriptive, clinical, and biochemical studies, relatively little investigation has been done of the intermediary metabolism of the dermatophytes. Only recently have such studies been published (Jensen, Altschuller, and Bard, 1957; Burack and Knight, 1958). This study is concerned...
