A new acylated triterpene together with prunasin, (-)-epicatechin, daucosterol, and three triterpenes, ursolic, oleanolic, and pomolic acids was isolated from the root of Chaenomeles japonica (THUNB.) LINDL. (Rosaceae) and determined to be 3-O-(E)-3, 5-dihydroxycinnamoylursolic acid on the basis of NMR and FAB-MS experiments.

A new diacetyl triterpene lactone, drosericarpone (2), was isolated from the hexane extract of the herb Cleome droserifolia, together with buchariol (1, a sesquiterpene oxide, isolated for the first time from Cleome species) and stigmasterol glucoside (3). The structures of 1-3 were identified by spectroscopic means.

The title compound, C(34)H(54)O(5), was synthesized by the reaction of ursolic acid with ethyl chloro-acetate in the presence of DMA. All six-membered rings of the penta-cyclic triterpene skeleton adopt chair conformations. In the crystal structure, mol-ecules are linked by inter-molecular O-H⋯O hydrogen-bond inter-actions, forming zigzag chains along the c axis.

Protium subserratum (Burseraceae) is a neotropical tree species that is comprised of several habitat-specific ecotypes having distinct defense chemical profiles. A previously unknown triterpene, 25,30-dicarboxy-26,27,28,29-tetraacetoxy-10,11,14,15-tetrahydrosqualene, was isolated from P. subserratum young leaf tissue of one ecotype growing in Peru. The structure of 1 was determined by spectrosc...

An investigation of the MeOH extract from the roots of Peritassa campestris (Hippocrateaceae) afforded two isomeric seco-A-ring quinonemethide triterpenoids, campestrine-I (1) and -II (2). This appears to be the first report of a C26,-type triterpene carbon skeleton from the Celastraceae or Hippocrateaceae families. The structures were elucidated on the basis of spectral data, particularly HMQC...

Neuroleptic activity of methanolic extract of Benincasa hispida was assessed using apomorphine induced cage climbing model and catalepsy test in mice. Methanolic extract showed significant reduction in apomorphine induced cage climbing activity at 600 mg/kg and catalepsy in mice .The phytochemical analysis of methanolic extract showed presence of phenolic compounds and triterpene saponins, whic...

This work describes a comparative qualitative and quantitative chemical analysis of Maytenus ilicifolia and Maytenus robusta (Celastraceae), extracts by high-resolution gas chromatography (HRGC), using external standards as the method of determination and thin layer chromatographic (TLC). The results show that both plants have a similar chromatographic profile. However, M. robusta exhibited abo...

Two new 27-nor-triterpene glycosides, tomentosides A (1) and B (2), were isolated from Peruvian "Uña de Gato" (cat's claw, plant of origin: Uncaria tomentosa), a traditional herbal medicine in Peru. Their structures were determined by spectroscopic analysis and chemical interconversions. This is the first report of naturally occurring pyroquinovic acid glycosides.

By antimicrobial and cytotoxic-guided fractionation, a bioactive norquinone-methide triterpene, 15 alpha-hydroxypristimerin, was isolated from a South American medicinal plant, Maytenus scutioides. Its structure was determined on the basis of spectroscopic evidence. Successful chemical transformation of pristimerin to netzahualcoyene indicates that the 15-hydroxy compounds seems to be a possibl...
