According to the results of an experimental study closely related species Elymus ciliaris and E. amurensis growing in Russian Far East, should be considered as a single polymorphic comprising four varieties, including var. amurensis. Two varieties are described for first time. Descriptions photographs typal specimens given.

Bread wheat is an allohexaploid consisting of three genetically related (homoeologous) genomes. The homoeologous chromosomes are capable of pairing but strict homologous pairing is observed at metaphase 1. The diploid-like pairing is regulated predominantly by Ph1, a gene mapped on long arm of chromosome 5B. We report direct evidence that a mutant of the gene (ph1b) arose from a submicroscopic ...

A putative translocation line (#32), together with a disomic addition line (TAI27) and an octo-amphiploid line (Zhong3) of common wheat and Thinopyrum intermedium were characterized by restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP) analysis, using probes covering all seven homoeologous groups of Triticeae. Line 32 was confirmed to be a cryptic translocation line, based on the detection of mult...

The phylogenetic position of hexaploid Elymus repens within the tribe Triticeae (Poaceae) was examined using cloned sequences from the low-copy nuclear genes encoding phosphoenolpyruvate carboxylase (pepC) and beta-amylase. A previous analysis of E. repens using data from the nuclear granule-bound starch synthase I (GBSSI) gene had yielded five phylogenetically distinct gene copies, two more th...

Cereal grasses of the Triticeae tribe have been the major food source in temperate regions since the dawn of agriculture. Their large genomes are characterized by a high content of repetitive elements and large pericentromeric regions that are virtually devoid of meiotic recombination. Here we present a high-quality reference genome assembly for barley (Hordeum vulgare L.). We use chromosome co...
