We investigate electromagnetic radiation emitted by a small voltage-biased Josephson junction connected to a superconducting transmission line. At frequencies below the well-known emission peak at the Josephson frequency (2eV/h), extra radiation is triggered by quantum fluctuations in the transmission line. For weak tunneling couplings and typical Ohmic transmission lines, the corresponding pho...

The radiative decays, π ± → l ± νγ and K ± → l ± νγ, with l standing for an e or a μ, and γ for a real or virtual photon (e + e − pair), provide a powerful tool to investigate the hadronic structure of pions and kaons. The structure-dependent part SD i of the amplitude describes the emission of photons from virtual hadronic states, and is parametrized in terms of form factors F i , with i = V, ...

We propose a scheme to implement a two-qubit controlled-phase gate for single atomic qubits, which works in principle with nearly ideal success probability and fidelity. Our scheme is based on the cavity input-output process and the single-photon polarization measurement. We show that, even with the practical imperfections such as atomic spontaneous emission, weak atom-cavity coupling, violatio...

We present exact analytical solutions to study the coherent interaction between a single photon and the mechanical motion of a membrane in quadratic optomechanics. We consider single-photon emission and scattering when the photon is initially inside the cavity and in the fields outside the cavity, respectively. Using our solutions, we calculate the single-photon emission and scattering spectra,...

Rigid endoscopes like graded-index (GRIN) lenses are known tools in biological imaging, but it is conceptually difficult to miniaturize them. In this letter, we demonstrate an ultra-thin rigid endoscope with a diameter of only 125 μm. In addition, we identify a domain where two-photon endoscopic imaging with fs-pulse excitation is possible. We validate the ultra-thin rigid endoscope consisting ...

Self-organized semiconductor quantum dots represent almost ideal two-level systems, which have strong potential to applications in photonic technologies. For instance, they can act as emitters close-to-ideal light sources. Coupled dot systems with significantly increased functionality are potentially of even stronger interest since be used host ultra-stable singlet-triplet spin qubits for effic...

We present Chandra observations of two radio-quiet QSOs, PG 2302+029 and PG 1254+047. PG2302+029 has an ultra high-velocity UV absorption system (∼ −56, 000 km s), while PG 1254+047 is a Broad Absorption Line (BAL) QSO with detached troughs. Both objects are X-ray weak, consistent with the known correlation between αox and the strength of the UV absorption lines. The data suggest that there is ...
