 B-complex vitamins and vitamin C are water-soluble vitamins that are not stored in the body and must be replaced each day.  These vitamins are easily destroyed or washed out during food storage and preparation.  The B-complex group is found in a variety of foods: cereal grains, meat, poultry, eggs, fish, milk, legumes and fresh vegetables.  Citrus fruits are good sources of vitamin C.  Us...

Novel ionic water-soluble tetrabenzoporphyrins have been successfully synthesized via a cascade reaction based on the Heck reaction. The UV-Vis spectra of these porphyrins displayed red-shifted and broadened Soret bands, and significantly enhanced Q bands. These porphyrins are highly water soluble.

Abstract: Enhanced leaf proline, soluble sugar and soluble protein contents with sever salinity stress can improve stomatal conductance and Relative water content. This can inhibit dry matter depletion due to salinity stress, so can be used for screening of safflower cultivars under salinity stress. To evaluate the changes in leaf proline, soluble sugars, glycinebetaine and protein conte...

Determination of carbohydrates in soil requires prior extraction and numerous extraction methods were suggested for this purpose. Three methods and five extractants were applied in order to extract carbohydrate fraction in three soil types forest, clayey and saline soils. The extraction methods were: 1) shaken in a plane rotary shaking machine for 16 h 2) heated in steam-bath for 2.5 h and 3) h...

Until recently methods of amino-acid analysis had been applicable only to purified proteins. In a few instances the effects of impurities have been partly ascertained, noteworthy being the work of Chibnall and his colleagues (Chibnall, 1939) and of Lugg (1938a) on the crude proteins of grasses. The development of the microbiological method in recent years has led to an extension of analysis to ...

drought stress is one of the most important factors limiting the survival and growth of plants in the different habitats of iran. detailed knowledge about the ecophysiological responses of native plants to drought stress could contribute to the success of breeding and re-vegetation programs. six wild populations of anthemis tinctoria, were assigned to four drought treatments, i.e. well-watered ...

The present experiment was carried out to determine the digestion kinetics of carbohydrate fractions of citrus by-products. Grapefruit pulp (GP), lemon pulp (LE), lime pulp (LI) and orange pulp (OP) were the test feed. Digestion kinetic of whole citrus by-products and neutral detergent fiber (NDF) fraction and acid detergent fiber (ADF) fractions of citrus by-products were measured using the <e...

The postharvest vase life of cut roses was studied to determine the effects of various physiological factors that influence the vase life of cut flower. Cut roses were obtained from commercial area of Siliguri. To assess the effect of preservatives on the postharvest life of rose, cut flowers were treated with following preservative solutions: fixed amount of citric acid (CA) (300 mg/ml) and 8-...

In this study, two crystallized maltodextrins were generated that consist of the same oligoglucan pattern but differ strikingly in the physical order of double helices. As revealed by x-ray diffraction, they represent the highly ordered A- and B-type allomorphs. Both crystallized maltodextrins were similar in size distribution and birefringence. They were used as model substrates to study the c...
