[1] Reflectance spectra from 280–1750 nm of typical desert dust aerosol (DDA) and biomass burning aerosol (BBA) scenes over oceans are presented, measured by the space-borne spectrometer Scanning Imaging Absorption Spectrometer for Atmospheric Chartography (SCIAMACHY). DDA and BBA are both UV-absorbing aerosols, but their effect on the top-of-atmosphere (TOA) reflectance is different due to dif...

The Ultra-Violet Aerosol Index (UVAI) is a practical parameter for detecting aerosols that absorb UV radiation, especially where other aerosol retrievals fail, such as over bright surfaces (e.g., deserts and clouds). However, typical UVAI retrieval requires at least two UV channels, while several satellite instruments, such as the Thermal And Near infrared Sensor for carbon Observation Cloud an...

With the fast development of the economy and expansion, a large number of people have concentrated in Beijing over the past few decades, leading to the result that Beijing has become home to one of the most complex mixtures of aerosol types in the world. The various aerosol types play different roles in the determination of global climate change, visibility, and human health. However, to the be...

[1] To determine the location of the potential dust source regions and to evaluate the dust emission frequencies over the arid and semiarid areas of China and Mongolia (35.5 N–47 N; 73 E–125 E), we established a map of Z0 from the composition of protrusion coefficient (PC) derived from the POLDER-1 bidirectional reflectance distribution function (BRDF). Using a =4 =4 resolution Z0 data set, we ...

Abstract. During a solar eclipse the irradiance reaching top of atmosphere (TOA) is reduced in Moon shadow. The commonly measured by Earth observation satellites before start and not corrected for this reduction, which results decrease computed TOA reflectances. Consequently, air quality products that are derived from reflectance spectra, such as ultraviolet (UV) absorbing aerosol index (AAI), ...

[1] As more information about global aerosol properties has become available from remotely sensed retrievals and in situ measurements, it is prudent to evaluate this new information, both on its own and in the context of satellite retrieval algorithms. Using the climatology of almucantur retrievals from global Aerosol Robotic Network (AERONET) Sun photometer sites, we perform cluster analysis t...

Abstract. To understand the ambient levels and sources of atmospheric mercury (Hg) in Tibetan Plateau, a full-year continuous measurement speciated was conducted at Waliguan (WLG) Baseline Observatory (3816 m a.s.l.) from May 2012 to April 2013. Mean concentrations (± 1 SD) gaseous elemental (GEM), oxidized (GOM) particulate bound (PBM) during whole study period were 1.90±0.80 ng m?3, 12.0±10.6...

The auditory evoked potential (AEP) is correlated to anaesthetic depth. The AEP has been used in rats, pigs, dogs and humans to assess anaesthetic depth. This study was undertaken to determine whether the AAI Index derived from the AEP correlated with changes in end tidal isoflurane concentration in dogs. The average AAI Index was 21.8 +/- 10.5 and isoflurane concentration was 1.7 +/- 0.4%. Dat...
