The efficacy of technical pyriproxyfen and diflubenzuron was evaluated at the laboratory level against Aedes aegypti, where we achieved adult emergence inhibition (EI50) values of 0.048 and 1.59 ppb (microg/liter), respectively. We compared these data with values obtained for temephos. We prepared emulsifiable concentrate formulations of pyriproxyfen and diflubenzuron in the laboratory and obta...

Infections in cattle with the gastric nematode Ostertagia ostertagi are associated with decreased acid secretion and profound physio-morphological changes of the gastric mucosa. The purpose of the current study was to investigate the mechanisms triggering these pathophysiological changes. O. ostertagi infection resulted in a marked cellular hyperplasia, which can be explained by increased trans...

Several Brazilian Aedes aegypti populations are resistant to the larvicidae temephos. Methoprene, that inhibits adult emergence, is one of the alternatives envisaged by the Brazilian Dengue Control Program (PNCD). However, at Brazil vector infestation rates are measured through larvae indexes and it has been claimed that methoprene use in the field could face operational problems. In order to d...

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES An environmental friendly formulation Starycide 480 SC (Triflumuron-OMS-2015 ), a new insect growth regulator with chitin synthesis inhibitor type mode of action was evaluated against mosquito larvae in laboratory and small-scale field trials carried out in and around Delhi. METHODS The formulation was tested in laboratory for its bio-efficacy against late III instar...

This study was conducted to assess the prevention of egg laying and the inhibition of the emergence of the cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis) resulting from the application of a combination of fipronil and permethrin (Frontline Tri-Act®/Frontect®, Merial) on dogs. Sixteen healthy dogs were included after pre-treatment live flea counts and randomly allocated to two groups. Eight dogs served as unt...

A juvenoid insect growth regulator, pyriproxyfen (Nylar or Sumilarv), in a 10% emulsifiable concentrate (10 EC) and a granular (3% sand granules) formulation was evaluated for efficacy against natural populations of chironomid midges in man-made ponds in central Florida. Both formulations at 0.05 kg AI/ha induced complete suppression of adult midge emergence for 1 wk. At 0.2 kg AI/ha, emergence...

Background: Flubendiamide, comparatively a new pesticide designed to eradicate lepidopteran insect pests is known to have low risk to birds, mammals, fish, algae, honey bees, non-target arthropods, earthworms, soil macro- and micro-organisms, non-target plants as well as sewage treatment organisms; however, the risk assessment for aquatic invertebrates from metabolite could not be finalized wit...

Larvae of Culex pipiens and Cx. restuans in catch basins were exposed to Altosid pellets (4% active ingredient, [S]-methoprene) applied at a rate of 11.3 kg/ha (7 g of pellets per catch basin). Under field conditions, the pellets yielded an average 82% emergence inhibition of adult mosquitoes over the 15-wk trial period.

The experiment on biological activity of botanical oils and leaf powders against R. dominica was conducted under laboratory condition. results revealed that among the powder, castor oil 2.0% neem powder 1% achieved maximum adult mortality at 72 hr after treatment (91.67% 81.67%) as best grain protectants with least seed damage (4.33% 3.67%), weight loss (2.01% 1.04%), F1 emergence (3.67 4.33) h...
