Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHS) have been determined in the atmosphere of Isfahan, Iran. Airborne particulate matter was sampled using a high-volume air sampler at roof-top level (~6m). Extraction of PAHS from airborne particulate matter has been performed using SFE system and the relationship between the extraction temperature and the recovery of PAHS</su...
Aerobiology plays a fundamental role in the transmission of infectious diseases. As infectious disease and infection control practitioners continue employing contemporary techniques (e.g., computational fluid dynamics to study particle flow, polymerase chain reaction methodologies to quantify particle concentrations in various settings, and epidemiology to track the spread of disease), the cent...
Knowledge of wheel–rail interaction is crucial to wheel and rail maintenance. In this interaction, some of the worn-off material is transformed into airborne particles. Although such wear is well understood, few studies treat the particles generated. We investigated friction modifiers' effects on airborne particles characteristics generated in wheel-rail contacts in laboratory conditions. Pin-o...
This article is the second part of a review into the importance of airborne microbe-carrying particles (MCPs) as a cause of wound sepsis after surgery. The roles of mechanical ventilation and occlusive surgical clothing in reducing airborne microbe-carrying particles (MCPs) and surgical site infections (SSIs) are discussed in this part.
AIMS The aerosolization and collection of submicrometre and ultrafine virus particles were studied with the objective of developing robust and accurate methodologies to study airborne viruses. METHODS AND RESULTS The collection efficiencies of three sampling devices used to sample airborne biological particles - the All Glass Impinger 30, the SKC BioSampler and a frit bubbler - were evaluated...
Air sampling studies are described which show high levels of airborne starch powder contamination in areas where powdered latex gloves are used. Furthermore, culture of collected samples show a clear association between starch particles and bacterial colonies in an experimental system suggesting that airborne particles could act as a vector for pathogens in the hospital environment.
The emission of the airborne particles from epoxy resin test sticks with different CNT loadings and two commercial products were characterized while sanding with three grit sizes and three disc sander speeds. The total number concentrations, respirable mass concentrations, and particle size number/mass distributions of the emitted particles were measured using a condensation particle counter, a...
Airborne particle classification that leads to particle source identification is important to both the improvement of the environment and the protection of public health. In this study, individual airborne particles were analyzed using a computer-controlled scanning electron microscope (CCSEM). It, was found that a more accurate particle classification can be obtained when it is based on both t...
When designing a cleanroom to achieve a required airborne cleanliness standard or grade, such as specified in ISO 1464411 or the European Union Guidelines to Good Manufacturing Practice (EU GGMP)2, designers have difficulties deciding how much filtered air should be supplied to the cleanroom to achieve the correct airborne cleanliness requirement. Currently, this decision is based on experience...
Background and Aims: Bioaerosols are airborne particles that contain bacteria, viruse, and fungi. Human show different reactions to bioaerosols. This study aimed to determine the density of bacterial particles cultivable in the inside and outside air of kindergardens in Birjand, Iran. Materials and Methods: This study was performed based on a descriptive-analytical and cross-sectional research...
