background: alpha particle irradiation from radon progeny is one of the major natural sources of effective dose in the public population. oncogenic transformation is a biological effectiveness of radon progeny alpha particle hits. the biological effects which has caused by exposure to radon, were the main result of a complex series of physical, chemical, biological and physiological interaction...

An InSb Schottky detector, fabricated from an undoped InSb wafer with Hall mobility which is higher than those of previously employed InSb wafers, was used for alpha particle detection. The output pulse of this InSb detector showed a very fast rise time, which was comparable with the output pulses of scintillation detectors.

Building on previous research, which indicated that scintillation cells perform differently at different elevations (Burkhart, 2005; Eberline, 1989; George, l983), a pressure chamber has been designed which allows for the simulation of scintillation cell use at different "elevations." The pressure chamber has been constructed in such a way as to accommodate a large flexible bag that is filled w...

Introduction: 238U decays with alpha particles emission into 234Th and the series ends with 206Pb. The unstable nucleus loses the energy with emitting ionizing alpha particles for reaching a stable state. It is undergoing alpha decay with decay energy (4.679 MeV). Alpha particles enter the human and animal bodies through inhalation of air or ingestion of contaminated food and water. This study ...

The aim of this paper is to determine the maximum values of the track length (Lmax) of alpha particles in Nuclear Track Detector (type CR-39) using a new method by taking the relation between the etching time and the diameter square of alpha particle with different energies at constant bulk etch rate VB (1.45 μm/hr) by using TRACK_TEST program from Brun et al. function and Yu et al. function. U...

We examined the induction of HPRT mutations in CHO cells exposed to low fluences of (238)Pu alpha particles from a specially constructed irradiator. The dose-response relationship was linear over the dose range of 5 cGy-1.2 Gy. However, unexpected sensitivity, leading to a significantly higher frequency of mutations than would be predicted by a back extrapolation from the data for higher doses,...

Introduction: Alpha particle emitters are very damaging and harmful when entering into the human body ,if   ingested or inhaled , swallowed or absorbed  into the lungs or bloodstream . Uranium (238U), Radium (226Ra) and Radon (222Rn) are typical alpha-particle emitters. Material and Methods: we measured the level of alpha particles emitted from 222Rn, 226Ra, and 238U in blood samples of 10 can...
