Fusarium wilt diseases caused by the fungus Fusarium oxysporum lead to significant yield losses of crops. Biocontrol agents such asTrichoderma viride , Trichoderma harzianum and Pseudomonas fluorescens are applied to control Fusarium wilt of Arachis hypogaea. Experiments were conducted on the effect of culture filtrates of T.viride (1%), T.harzianum (1.5%), and P. fluorescens (2%) on biochemica...

Aflatoxin is a carcinogenic toxin produced by the Aspergillus flavus and Aspergillus parasiticus fungi. This toxin is found in corn, cotton seeds, and peanuts and is consequently a major food safety issue. In this paper we report on a pilot study we conducted in Georgia, USA, to quantify the spatial distribution of aflatoxin in growing peanuts (Arachis hypogaea L.).

1415 Research Article Gene effects of pod yield and its components in three crosses of groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) Abstract: Groundnut, (Arachis hypogaea L.) is a major source of vegetable oil and protein and also a major source of fodder crop. Genetic systems that control the expression of quantitative traits facilitate the choice of the most efficient breeding and selection procedure. Gen...

Effect of cobalt (Co) stress on morphological parameters and pigments of Arachis hypogaea L. were studied. Growth parameters such as, root and shoot length, number of nodules, total leaf area and root and shoot dry weights; photosynthetic pigments viz., chlorophyll ‘a’, chlorophyll ‘b’, total chlorophyll and carotenoid contents were analysed. Growth parameters and pigments have beneficial value...

The complex, tetraploid genome structure of peanut (Arachis hypogaea) has obstructed advances in genetics and genomics in the species. The aim of this study is to understand the genome structure of Arachis by developing a high-density integrated consensus map. Three recombinant inbred line populations derived from crosses between the A genome diploid species, Arachis duranensis and Arachis sten...

This is a preliminary investigation of the incidence and aflatoxins in Arachis hypogaea. The survey was based on groundnut samples, collected from local market. Most dominating fungi was found to be A. flavus followed by Rhizopus sp, Mucor sp. It was found that A. flavus produce aflatoxin G .From this study, it was clear that heavy fungal load in groundnut was present, however further research ...

A natural lectin from the seed of peanut Arachis hypogaea was purified by singlestep affinity chromatography using galactoside-coupled agarose. The native molecular mass of purified A. hypogaea lectin (PN-L) was 29 kDa. The lectin PN-L was detected for agglutinating activity, glycoinhibiting action and thermostability. The influence of pH on those activities was also tested. The results showed ...

92 Journal of Plant Registrations, Vol 2, No. 2, May 2008 ‘Tifguard’ (Reg. No. CV-101, PI 651853) is a runnertype peanut (Arachis hypogaea L. subsp. hypogaea var. hypogaea) cultivar that was released by the USDA-ARS and the Georgia Agricultural Experiment Stations in 2007. Tifguard was developed at the University of Georgia Coastal Plain Experiment Station, Tifton, GA, and was tested under the ...

Abstract Peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is an important oilseed crop and food legume that highly susceptible to biotic abiotic factors. Wild Arachis species represent useful genetic resources because of their resistance pests diseases. In particular, understanding the affinity between B-genome for broadening base A. (AABB genome), since only one population ipaensis known, relatively few other hav...

Two hundred thirty-five cultivated varieties, breeding lines and plant introductions of Arachis hypogaea and 12 accessions of wild Arachis spp. were tested for resistance to Meloidogyne hapla. Eight of the cultivated peanut lines were only moderately susceptible and four of the wild peanuts exhibited resistance. No resistance-breaking M. hapla populations were found among 10 geographical isolat...
