chemical vapor deposition (cvd) is one of the most popular methods for producing carbon nanotubes (cnts). the growth rate of cnts based on cvd technique is investigated by using a numerical model based on finite volume method. inlet gas mixture, including xylene as carbon source and mixture of argon and hydrogen as carrier gas enters into a horizontal cvd reactor at atmospheric pressure. in thi...

CO2/pH perturbation experiments were carried out under two different pCO2 levels (39.3 and 101.3 Pa) to evaluate effects of CO2-induced ocean acidification on the marine diatom Phaeodactylum tricornutum. After acclimation (>20 generations) to ambient and elevated CO2 conditions (with corresponding pH values of 8.15 and 7.80, respectively), growth and photosynthetic carbon fixation rates of high...

A continuous flow system was used to study the interactions between carbon dioxide and ethylene in intact sunflower (Helianthus annuus L.) plants. An increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide above the ambient level (0.033%) in the atmosphere surrounding the plants increased the rate of ethylene production, and a decrease in carbon dioxide concentration resulted in a decrease in the rate ...

Invasion by woody legumes can alter hydrology, nutrient accumulation and cycling, and carbon sequestration on grasslands. The rate and magnitude of these changes are likely to be sensitive to the effects of atmospheric CO(2) enrichment on growth and water and nitrogen dynamics of leguminous shrubs. To assess potential effects of increased atmospheric CO(2) concentrations on plant growth and acq...

Greenhouse gases (GHG) are a serious threat to humans and environment. Greenhouse gases have been different sources, but main factors are fossil fuels, industrial processes, deforestation and agriculture. What is now more than ever before should be considered according to the role of forests and rangelands in atmospheric carbon sequestration? Carbon sequestration is to changes in atmospheric ca...

We report a new synthesis of best estimates of the inputs of fixed nitrogen to the world ocean via atmospheric deposition and compare this to fluvial inputs and dinitrogen fixation. We evaluate the scale of human perturbation of these fluxes. Fluvial inputs dominate inputs to the continental shelf, and we estimate that about 75% of this fluvial nitrogen escapes from the shelf to the open ocean....

The O2 and CO2 compensation points (O2 and CO2) of plants in a closed system depend on the ratio of CO2 and O2 concentrations in air and in the chloroplast and the specificities of ribulose bisphosphate carboxylase/oxygenase (Rubisco). The photosynthetic O2 is defined as the atmospheric O2 level, with a given CO2 level and temperature, at which net O2 exchange is zero. In experiments with C3 pl...

growing process of industrialization in different societies, excessive expansion of industries and factories and increase transport industries, push human toward unstable development. among these problem, massive volume of pollutions is also added to the atmosphere. air pollution in industrial societies and cities is more intensive. global warming is one of the major problems of 21 century. co2...

This work, for the first time, experimentally demonstrates the relationship between motor vehicle emissions and the decay of ornamental calcareous stone, by means of sulfation processes (the well-known phenomenon of Black-crust formation). The critical catalytic effects of carbon (soot) and metal-rich particles from vehicle exhaust result in the acceleration of the rate of fixation of atmospher...

Transpiration from plant canopies is an important determinant of surface energy budgets at the vegetated land surface. A recent parameterization of plant transpiration and stomatal conductance (Sellers et al., 1992a) is based on enzyme kinetics in plant chloroplasts. This paper presents background concepts in plant physiology and biochemistry needed to understand and evaluate the parameterizati...
