Sarcoidois of the gingiva is rarely the primary manifestation of the disease. The following case presentation highlights clinical signs and symptoms that are not uncommon or unusual except for the anatomical location of the initial expression. Appropriate treatment must be based on a definitive diagnosis which, in turn, requires a biopsy for histologic analysis.

We examined the expression of Centromere protein H (CENP-H) mRNA in 38 oral squamous cell carcinomas (SCCs), 2 epithelial dysplasias and 5 normal gingivae using the real-time quantitative reverse transcription-polymerase chain reaction (RT-PCR). The mean expression level of CENP-H mRNA was higher in oral SCCs (0.11+/-0.08) than epithelial dysplasias (0.03+/-0.01) and normal gingivae (0.027+/-0....

The primary function of the immune system of the mouth is to protect the teeth, jaws, gingivae and oral mucosa against infection. These host defences vary in the different oral microenvironments or domains represented by the oral mucosa, saliva and gingival crevice. This review aims to consider and contrast the main immune components in each domain and cites examples of oral diseases where the ...

The lesion, provisionally diagnosed as idiopathic gingival enlargement, was completely excised and divided into two sections. The histological and immunohistochemical findings in one of the sections showed it to be characteristic of schwannoma while the other secti...
The buccal mucosa lines the inner cheek, and buccal formulations are placed in the mouth between the upper gingivae (gums) and cheek to treat local and systemic conditions. The oral cavity has been used a...
