A 67-year-old man underwent percutaneous balloon valvuloplasty for bioprosthetic tricuspid stenosis. He had undergone two tricuspid valve replacements over a period of 39 years and became symptomatic. After the valvuloplasty, his symptoms were resolved. Stenosis of a bioprosthetic tricuspid valve can be successfully and safely treated with balloon valvuloplasty.

OBJECTIVES The goal of this study was to evaluate the role of percutaneous aortic valvuloplasty in patients with cardiogenic shock due to severe aortic stenosis and associated major comorbid conditions and to establish predictors of survival. BACKGROUND The prognosis for patients in cardiogenic shock with severe aortic stenosis is poor. Aortic valve replacement can be lifesaving, but the pres...

Background: Balloon valvuloplasty has been used for congenital valvular pulmonary stenosis (PS) in pediatric patients as a conventional treatment. The purpose of this study was to further investigate the safety, immediate and long-term results of balloon valvuloplasty in adults with congenital valvular pulmonary stenosis. Method and Result: We analyzed hemodynamic data of 12 patients who underw...

Background This study was performed to determine independent predictors of long-term outcome after percutaneous balloon dilation of congenital pulmonary valve stenosis. Smaller follow-up series of patients after balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty have shown inconsistent results regarding the independent relation between prognostic factors and longterm outcome, as many patient selection and technic...

OBJECTIVE Sympathetic activity increases in patients with mitral stenosis (MS). The association between prolonged Tpeak-Tend (Tp-e) interval and increased sympathetic activity has been demonstrated. This study aimed to evaluate Tp-e interval, Tp-e/QT ratio, and Tp-e/corrected QT interval (QTc) ratio in patients with MS before and after balloon valvuloplasty. METHODS Thirty patients with sever...

OBJECTIVE To assess the value of pulmonary balloon valvuloplasty in the interim palliation of complex congenital heart disease and pulmonary stenosis in children, who often require numerous palliative operations before definitive surgical repair. METHODS Evaluation of pulmonary balloon valvuloplasty procedures performed over a five year period in 18 patients (age 8 days--29 years; mean 5.5 ye...

From 1986 to 1988, balloon aortic valvuloplasty was performed in 32 patients with congenital valvular aortic stenosis. The patients ranged in age from 2 days to 28 years (mean +/- SD 8.3 +/- 5.9). One balloon was used in 17 patients and two balloons were used in 15 patients. Immediately after valvuloplasty, peak systolic pressure gradient across the aortic valve decreased significantly from 77 ...

BACKGROUND Percutaneous balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty is the procedure of choice for uncomplicated severe or symptomatic pulmonary stenosis. The present study describes our experience in balloon pulmonary valvuloplasty using the Inoue balloon catheter in adolescent and adult patients. AIMS To assess the immediate and mid-term outcomes of percutaneous balloon valvuloplasty with Inoue balloon...

UNLABELLED Inoue-balloon percutaneous transvenous mitral valvuloplasty is conventionally performed via the right femoral vein. However, atrial transseptal access can be technically challenging. Herein, we describe a 54-year-old male who had balloon mitral valvuloplasty performed via the left femoral vein because of an anomalous inferior vena cava course, including the technical issues encounter...
