Atomic Force Microscopy complemented by Photoluminescence and Reflection High Energy Electron Diffraction has been used to study self-assembly of silver nanoparticles and multiwall carbon nanotubes on thermally decomposed GaAs (100) surfaces. It has been shown that the decomposition leads to the formation of arsenic plate-like structures. Multiwall carbon nanotubes spin coated on the decomposed...

in this study, salmonella typhimurium bacteria removal from polluted water has been investigated using multiwall carbon nanotubes arrays. experimental results reveal that the contact time, the bacterial concentration and the weight of multiwall carbon nanotubes arrays have positive significant effects on the bacteria removal efficiency. increasing the contact time and the weight of multiwall ca...

The synthesis of inorganic nanotubes (INT) from layered compounds of a small size (<10 nm in diameter) and number of layers (<4) is not a trivial task. Calculations based on density functional tight-binding theory (DFTB) predict that under highly exergonic conditions, the reaction could be driven into a “window” of (meta-) stability, where 1–3-layer nanotubes will be formed. Indeed, in this stu...

the electrocatalytic oxidation of captopril (cap) was studied by modified carbon nanotubes paste electrode in the presence of isoproterenol (ispt) using cyclic voltammetry (cv), chronoamperometry and square wave voltammetry (swv). also, the values of catalytic rate constant (k), and electron transfer coefficient (α) for cap were calculated. the mechanism of ca electrochemical behavior at the mo...

The aim of this study was to prepare three types of multiwall carbon nanotubes (CNT)-based composite electrodes and to modify their surface by copper electrodeposition for nonenzymatic oxidation and determination of glucose from aqueous solution. Copper-decorated multiwall carbon nanotubes composite electrode (Cu/CNT-epoxy) exhibited the highest sensitivity to glucose determination.

Here we culture Chinese hamster ovary cells on isotropic, aligned and patterned substrates based on multiwall carbon nanotubes. The nanotubes provide the substrate with nanoscale topography. The cells adhere to and grow on all substrates, and on the aligned substrate, the cells align strongly with the axis of the bundles of the multiwall nanotubes. This control over cell alignment is required f...

We combine electromechanical measurements with ab initio density-functional calculations to settle the controversy about the origin of torsion-induced conductance oscillations in multiwall carbon nanotubes. Contrary to intuition, the observed oscillation period in multiwall tubes exhibits the same inverse-squared diameter dependence as in single-wall tubes with the same diameter. This finding s...

Bundles of single-wall carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) coalesce forming multiwall carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs), containing from two to six nested tubes, under thermal treatment at high temperatures [(2200-2400) degrees C]. This structural transformation is confirmed by extensive molecular dynamics (MD) simulations. The simulations suggest a "patching-and-tearing" mechanism for the single-wall-to-multiwa...

A theoretical description of electron spin resonance (ESR) in 1D interacting metals is given, with primary emphasis on carbon nanotubes. The spin-orbit coupling is derived, and the resulting ESR spectrum is analyzed using a low-energy field theory. Drastic differences in the ESR spectra of single-wall and multiwall nanotubes are found. For single-wall tubes, the predicted double peak spectrum i...
