Abstract Background: Brain tumors are fatal malignancies which are frequently associated with psychiatric and behavioural manifestation that should be noticed. Studies suggest that the primary psychiatric dysfunctions are associated with brain tumors in 47-94 % of cases. Case report: A 26-year single woman with neuropsychic symptoms was under the drug therapy with antipsychotic, as well as sed...
Abstract Background: Cerebellar tumors are considered as clinically significant intracranial neoplasms and acknowledgment of their epidemiological characteristics tends to be essential. The present study was conducted in order to determine the prevalence and types of their cerebellar tumors in Shohada-e-Tajrish Hospital between 2006-2014. Materials and Methods: In the current observational...
RYTHROPOIETIN (Ep) is a glycoprotein hormone E produced mainly by the kidney and is the principle regulator of erythropoiesis.' The level of Ep is normally tightly controlled and helps to maintain a relatively constant red blood cell (RBC) mass.' Occasionally, abnormal production of Ep results in secondary erythrocytosis. Secondary erythrocytosis has been reported in a variety of tumors includi...
Introduction: Surgery for cerebellar hemangioblastoma can be challenging because of the tumor's location in posterior fossa and its inherent nature hypervascularity. Solid HGB show characteristics arteriovenous malformation, internal decompression, or piecemeal resection, harbor risk potentially devastating intraoperative bleeding swelling. Indocyanine green (ICG) is widely used visualizing flo...
The rupture of hemangioblastoma with a hemorrhage, especially a ventricular system hemorrhage caused by the rupture of a hemangioblastoma located in the posterior part of the fourth ventricle, is very rare. This study reports a case of this rare disease. The patient was a 38-year-old male with onset after a sudden headache. Computed tomography examination after onset revealed a hemorrhage in th...
INTRODUCTION Von Hippel-Lindau disease (VHL) is an autosomal dominant multisystemic cancer syndrome due to a mutation of the VHL tumor suppressor gene on chromosome 3, region p25-26, with an incidence of 1/36,000 in newborns. Patients are at risk of developing cerebellar, spinal and retinal hemangioblastoma, renal cell carcinoma, pheochromocytoma, pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors, pancreatic an...
We report a case of sporadic isolated hemangioblastoma arising from the retroperitoneum and provide a review of the scarce literature regarding this very rare tumor. Furthermore, we thoroughly describe the pathologic features and the broad differential diagnosis that should always be included in the study of any retroperitoneal soft tissue mass to arrive at the final diagnosis.
BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE In adults with only cerebellar masses, hemangioblastoma and metastasis are the 2 most important differential diagnoses. Our aim was to investigate the added value of arterial spin-labeling MR imaging for differentiating hemangioblastoma from metastasis in patients with only cerebellar masses. MATERIALS AND METHODS This retrospective study included a homogeneous cohort c...
Cerebellar haemangioblastomas are rare in the elderly. Those associated with the von Hippel-Lindau (VHL) disease, usually present during the third decade of life. We report an unusually delayed presentation in an 80 year old obligate carrier of VHL gene mutation.
