The development of the turkey and chicken embryo from the first cleavage division through hypoblast formation is described. The early development of the chicken embryo has been categorized into 14 stages. A similar staging sequence for the turkey was not proposed until 1993, when we described the early development of the turkey embryo, which was divided into 11 stages. Comparatively, difference...

The purpose of this investigation was to study and compare the electrophoretic patterns of optic lensproteins of different species of domestic animals at pre- and post-natal ages. Optic lenses were removed from the embryo or adult sheep, cattle, goat, camel and chicken at the slaughter-house then homogenized and subjected to sodium dodecylsulfate polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis (SDS-PAGE). I...

this study aimed to investigate the effects of different doses of sulfadiazine on embryonic chicken pectoral muscles. in total, 100 fertile eggs were obtained and divided into five groups of control (no injection) and sulfadiazine injection at doses of 2, 10, 30, and 70 mg/kg. after hatching, pectoral muscle tissues were harvested from the newly hatched chickens for histopathological examinatio...

Perfluorooctanoic acid (PFOA) is an environmental contaminant that could induce developmental cardiotoxicity in a chicken embryo, which may be alleviated by l-carnitine. To explore the roles of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and nitric oxide (NO) in such changes and the potential effects of l-carnitine, fertile chicken eggs were exposed to PFOA via an air cell injection, with or without l-carnit...

We investigated the susceptibility to Usutu virus (Flavivirus) of 13 permanent cell lines, 3 primary cell cultures, and chicken embryos. Vero, PK-15, and goose embryo fibroblast cells developed cytopathic effects; however, viral multiplication was detected in all mammalian cell types by immunohistochemical tests. Chicken embryo fibroblast cells and chicken embryos were resistant.

The chicken embryo cell line LSCC-H32 was tested for the propagation and titration of several animal viruses of the families Toga-, Reo-, Rhabdo-, Herpeto-, Orthomyxo-, Paramyxo-, and Poxviridae and compared with secondary chicken embryo cells. The LSCC-H32 cells were demonstrated to be as susceptible for most of the tested viruses as were secondary chicken embryo cells. Both produced comparabl...

The chicken embryo is a classical animal model for studying normal embryonic and fetal development and for xenotransplantation experiments to study the behavior of cells in a standardized in vivo environment. The main advantages of the chicken embryo include low cost, high accessibility, ease of surgical manipulation and lack of a fully developed immune system. Xenotransplantation into chicken ...

Chick embryos are a great historical research model in basic and applied sciences. Along with other animal models, avian and specifically chicken embryo has been attended, as well. Avian fertilized eggs as a natural bioreactor are an efficient tool for producing recombinant proteins and vaccines manufacturing. Due to the limitations of birds' eggs for viral replication, avian stem cells culture...

Rous sarcoma virus (RSV)-derived retroviral vector could efficiently deliver the green fluorescent protein (GFP), which is driven by the internal cytomegalovirus enhancer/promoter, into restricted cell populations in the chicken embryo. RSV-derived vectors coupled with the tet regulatory elements also revealed doxycycline-dependent inducible GFP expression in the chicken embryo in ovo.
