BACKGROUND "Chevron"-Olecranon osteotomies are commonly used for the approach to intraarticular distal humerus fractures but are often associated with procedure related complications. We studied the triceps reflecting approach (TRA) with preservation of the extensor apparatus as a safe alternative giving a sufficient exposure to the elbow joint and helping to achieve anatomical fracture reducti...
Introduction: Bennett’s fracture-dislocation is an intraarticular injury of the first metacorpal, usually treated by closed(non-surgical) methods. Fractures of the trapezium are among the rare wrist injuries. Simultaneous occurrence of these two injuries is a very rare entity. Case Report: A young man who had fallen down a motorcycle was referred with right Bennett’s fracture -dislocation a...
From 1982 to 1987 we treated 85 extra-articular comminuted distal third humeral fractures in adults with prefabricated plastic braces. Of these, 15% were open fractures and 18% had initial peripheral nerve injury. On average, the sleeve was applied 12 days after injury and used for 10 weeks. There was 96% union, with no infections. All nerve injuries resolved or were improving at the latest exa...
Background: Intra-articular T- type or Y- type fractures of the distal end of the humerus are relatively rare, and consequently few surgeons will be able to attain extensive experience with the surgical treatment of these injuries. The current emphasis is on operative intervention with rigid internal fixation and early mobilization. Methods: In this prospective and retrospective study, we r...
The appropriate treatment of extraarticular distal humerus fractures is controversial. While functional bracing has been shown to result in good outcomes, some surgeons continue to favor operative fixation. Specifically, they cite concerns of radial nerve injury, difficulty in controlling fracture alignment, and long-term elbow stiffness with bracing. Jawa et al compared functional bracing with...
conclusions closed reduction and hybrid external fixation can be used as a definitive treatment for severe comminuted fractures of the distal femur and proximal tibia, when the concomitant contusion of the skin and soft tissue damage prohibits safe open reduction and internal fixation. patients and methods in a prospective study, 44 patients with comminuted fractures of the distal femur or prox...
Main principle of biological fixation by minimally invasive locked plate osteosynthesis (MILPO) in lower extremity long bone fractures is relative stability which is provided by using long plate with limited number of screws. Some biomechanical studies have been reported about this issue. However, clinical studies are still missing. The aims of this retrospective extended case series were to ev...
Proximal humeral fractures are a common injury after falls, particularly in the elderly population. An ultrasound-guided hematoma block is a novel technique for analgesia in cases when standard intravenous analgesia is not efficacious. We present a case in which ultrasound-guided hematoma block was the ideal method for adjunctive pain control in a patient with a comminuted humeral head fracture.
