The initialization of the graph-based matching method depends on a minimum spanning tree (MST) parameterized by edge weights. Although we use the quadratic mean of mutual ranks as the edge weight, Structure-from-Motion (SfM) is not much affected by different weighting strategies, as we will show in the following experiment. It is shown that this method is not sensitive to the initial MST step. ...

We attempt a justification of a generalisation of the consistent histories programme using a notion of probability that is valid for all complete sets of history propositions. This consists of introducing Cox’s axioms of probability theory and showing that our candidate notion of probability obeys them. We also give a generalisation of Bayes’ theorem and comment upon how Bayesianism should be u...

Special relativity is most naturally formulated as a theory of spacetime geometry, but within the spacetime framework probability appears to be a purely epistemic notion. It is possible that progress can be made with rather di¤erent approaches covariant stochastic equations, in particular but the results to date are not encouraging. However, it seems a non-epistemic notion of probability can be...

In Peer-to-Peer networks based on consistent hashing and ring topology each peer is responsible for an interval chosen (pseudo-) randomly on a circle. The topology of the network, the communication load and the amount of data a peer stores depends heavily on the length

1 Abstract We describe a consistent hashing algorithm which performs multiple lookups per key in a hash table of nodes. It requires no additional storage beyond the hash table, and achieves a peak-to-average load ratio of 1 + ε with just 1 + 1 ε lookups per key.

We consider maximum likelihood estimation of finite mixture of uniform distributions. We prove that the maximum likelihood estimator is strongly consistent, if the scale parameters of the component uniform distributions are restricted from below by exp(−nd), 0 < d < 1, where n is the sample size.

Acoustic characteristics of speech signals differ with gender due to physiological differences of the glottis and the vocal tract. Previous research [1] showed that adding the voice-source related measuresH∗ 1 −H∗ 2 andH∗ 1 −A3 improved gender classification accuracy compared to using only the fundamental frequency (F0) and formant frequencies. H∗ i refers to the i–th source spectral harmonic m...
